Stratford is still in London, isn't it?
---------------------------------------
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford,_London

<<Stratford, historically Stratford Langthorne, is a place in the
London Borough of Newham in East London. It will be the primary
location of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The name "Stratford" derives
from the Old English word for "street" combined with "ford" (a river
crossing). It was originally the name of two adjacent villages, one on
each side of such a ford over the River Lea on the Roman road from
London to Colchester. Stratford-atte-Bow, on the west bank, was named
after a bow-shaped *BRIDGE* over the Lea, and is now known merely as
Bow. On the east bank was Stratford Langthorne, now simply Stratford.
Until the arrival of the railways in 1839 much of Stratford was open
countryside in the historic county of Essex. The church of St John in
Stratford Broadway, designed by Edward Blore, contains in the
churchyard the elaborate *Martyrs' Memorial* [http://wikimapia.org/
6837416/Protestant-Martyrs-Memorial] to those Essex Protestants burnt
[by John de Vere] in the Marian Persecutions as documented by John
Foxe. The Abbey of St Mary's, Stratford Langthorne was founded in 1135
and was a dominating influence until the dissolution of the
monasteries by Henry VIII in 1538. It was one of the largest of the
Cistercian order.>>

But you forgot the *BRIDGE* , Dave.
....................................................
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_(music)

<<In music, especially occidental popular music, a *BRIDGE* is a
contrasting section which also prepares for the return of the original
material section. The bridge may be the third eight-bar phrase in a
thirty-two-bar form (the B in AABA), or it may be used more loosely in
verse-chorus form, or, in a compound AABA form, used as a contrast to
a full AABA section. Commonly the *BRIDGE* is in a contrasting key to
the original melody and can often be a perfect 4th higher.

Lyrically, the *BRIDGE* is typically used to pause and reflect on the
earlier portions of the song or to prepare the listener for the
climax. The term may also be used to refer to the section between the
verse and the chorus, although this is more commonly referred to as
the pre-chorus or link.

The theme "The Song That Goes Like This" from the musical play
Spamalot spoofs in its lyrics the abuse of the bridge in romantic
songwriting: Now we can go straight / into the middle eight / a
*BRIDGE* that is too far for me.

An example of a bridge-passage used to separate two sections of a more
loosely organized work occurs in George Gershwin's An American in
Paris. As Deems Taylor described it in the program notes for the first
performance: "Having safely eluded the taxis ... the American's
itinerary becomes somewhat obscured. ... However, since what
immediately ensues is technically known as a bridge-passage, one is
reasonably justified in assuming that the Gershwin pen ... has
perpetrated a musical pun and that ... our American has crossed the
Seine, and is somewhere on the Left Bank.">>

[Song snipped]

> But you forgot the *BRIDGE* , Dave.

I didn't oVERlook the bridge, Art; I just didn't like it in the
original song, and chose not to include it.

Did you know that the final VERse of the song was cut from the
film, Art? It ran as follows:

"Gosh, it would be pleasin'
To reason out the reason
To things I can't explain
And perhaps I'll deserve ya
And be worthy erve ya
If I only had a brain."

Note the word "erve" in the penultimate line: it's an anagram
of...well, I'll let you try to work it out, Art; it shouldn't take you
more than a week or two. No doubt this REVelation will lead to marvel
further at the depth of our conspiracy.

But if you didn't like the original VERsion, perhaps you'll like
this REVised and expanded VERsion, Art:

You would *not* post reams of spam, let
Alone mix Vere with Hamlet,
Or use "vier" for "four" in Spain;
And you'd say, "Hail fellow, well met!"
As you doffed your tinfoil helmet
If you only had a brain.

All your newsgroup fans would cry for
Your thoughts on ev'ry cipher,
You'd from anagrams abstain.

You would post a meek apology
For your nutcase numerology

If you only had a brain.

You would not be ever chasin'
Th'inscrutable Freemason,
Whom you still pursue in vain.

You'd eschew Hermetic lore on
Elks and cease to be a moron

If you only had a brain.

You would write without such vagueness,
You'd shut up 'bout gobs and Agnes,
And from foreign tongues refrain;

You'd forsake the realm of idjits,

Your IQ'd reach double digits

If you only had a brain.

You'd resume your honored seat in
SF, a Clueless Cretin
No longer you'd remain;
You'd return with full decorum
From "the corner" to the forum

If you only had a brain.

Lynne and Strit you'd not let fly at,
You'd be friends with Marty Hyatt,
In Phaeton you'd remain;

After humbly begging pardon
You would join the group at Arden

If you only had a brain.

From English gaffes you'd shade yer eyes,
No longer spell it "plagerize,"
Nor mix "their" with "there" again;

You'd pass English Composition
And to Lehigh gain admission
If you only had a brain.

De Vere you'd not begod at us,
Date Vergil 'fore Herodotus,
Nor aught else so inane;

Anne Hathaway or any other
You'd not mix with Shakespeare's mother
If you only had a brain.

You would cease your ass's brayin'

'Bout the death of Peter Gay, an'
You *might* seem almost sane;

We would REVel and make merry,

You'd join ranks with Dave and Terry
If you only had a brain.
