Shakespeare comes to the ACT
Ryan Gladstone and Tara Travis are among the cast of The Shakespeare
Show. The production takes centre stage at the ACT on Oct. 17.
The Maple Ridge Arts Centre and Theatre is hosting a variety of new
performances in the Genstar Studio Theatre this season.
The series debuts with The Shakespeare Show, a production featuring
local actress Tara Travis.
Based on one of the biggest theatrical debates of all time, The
Shakespeare Show explores the theory that William Shakespeare’s plays
were actually written by Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford.
Along the way, Oxford meets the ghost of Christopher Marlowe, the
three Witches from Macbeth, Shakespeare’s wife Anne Hathaway, the
Bubonic plague and Queen Elizabeth.
In the end, he is killed and asks Shakespeare to tell his story.
The Shakespeare Show is written almost entirely in iambic pentameter
rhythm and features puppets, songs, satire and swordfights.
The production was written by Ryan Gladstone and directed by Karen
Hamm of Monster Theatre, which has been creating plays and touring
across Canada since 2000. The group is dedicated to presenting stories
from mythology and history.
