Hullo All,
I have just been testing the recent changes in the default branch (rev
b6554a90d55), and am seeing slow display of images in both the fast
preview window and the control points tab.
For example, if I select the control points tab, then select images 0
and 1, there is a noticeable delay before image 1 is displayed, and
moving on to images 1,2 there is a delay before image 2 is displayed.
In the fast preview window, if I select photometrics, each image is
displayed with a delay between. This does vary between projects, some
of the scanned images I have been playing with are larger and they do
exhibit a more noticeable delay.
This has never been an issue on my system previously, images in the
control points tab and FPW have always 'appeared' to display
instantly, so for my typical project, these recent changes seem to be
a step backwards. I guess the changes do have some benefit in areas or
projects that I don't use.

Is there a cmake or configure option that might help with this?

Cheers,
Terry

The images now show as a temporary place holder while they are fetched
and decoded. Previously the user interface would freeze and not respond
during image loading.

This means when you start the fast preview, the window should appear and
become usable much quicker, but take just as long to get all the images.
Similarly, the control point will show a blank image and let you do
other things while the image is loading.

Is the total time taken noticeably slower? Or is it the display changing
without the images present which you don't like?

Sorry, I didn't make it optional. I thought having an unresponsive
interface while images load was always a bad thing. If there is a
noticeably slower total time between request and full result displaying,
I would say that is a bug however.

I reckon it has all slowed significantly. Previously, my perception
was that opening the control points tab and selecting which pair of
images I wanted provided an 'instant' display...no waiting, immediate
response. Now perceptions can be wrong when one does a real test. I
will rerun my test project and take note again of what is happening,
then uninstall the latest version and re-install a previous build and
rerun the test.
I will report back.

OK, more to come.

Thanks for your help.

I have re run my project with the build of rev b6554a90d55, and noted
how long images take to display in control points tab and FPW.
I then installed a build of rev 167209ece4a2 (about 22 Oct) and
repeated the exercise.
It looks to me as though images are displaying in about the same time,
but what happens in the old build is that the display doesn't change
until it is completely refreshed...e.g in control points tab, when
selecting a new image in one panel the old image remains displayed
until refreshed with the new image. In the new build, when selecting a
new image, the panel immediately blanks and remains blank until
refreshed with new image.
In the FPW, when selecting 'photometrics' the image remains unchanged
in old build until refreshed with the new image, but in the new build,
the individual images are blanked out until refreshed.
So, I guess my eye/mind was being fooled into thinking things were
taking longer.
Sorry for a false alarm.

Cheers,
Terry
