Starting a mosaic-project with a layout?

Hi

I'm starting to use Hugin again after a year's break or so.

I wonder what options I have to do the following:

I want to start my mosaic-mode projects by dragging around the images first, but for this it would be good to have the deck spread out first instead as all stacked on the same position like a deck of cards.  It would be good to just spread them out side by side top to bottom without overlap and start dragging from there.

What´s the best option? Some kind of scripting or any other tool that work (layout or panostart)?  I'm using different resolution every time, would that make for example layouts impractical?

This could be done quite easily with a Panotools::Script script or a python hpi
plugin, but as far as I know none exists yet.

I've seen a lot of discussions about the hsi here,  what is the status?  Not yet stable i suppose?   Any plugins ready yet?   I find these things easiest to do based on an example.

Otherwise, maybe scripting is the mature option?

I've looked in the manual page [1] and the example script [2] and it looks quite straight forward

To moderate my question, does anyone build Hugin regulary with the hsi option enabled, and for windows in particular?
