it's that time of the year again. Google has not yet announced it, but
the Summer of Code 2008 is in the air. Time to start recruiting.
If the requirements are the same as last year, we'll need mentors, an
admin, and a backup admin. Moreover, last year we had a steering
committee that was helpful to bring clout, industry knowledge and expertise.
I was the admin for the GSoC 2007. It was a wonderful experience. Our
team did great. We learned a lot. It is time for me to pass on what I
have learned, and IMO the best way to do so is by passing responsibility
and offering to mentor the next admin.
The hugin project is looking for a GSoC 2008 admin!
Responsibilities:
* main point of contact for Google with the project
* ensure that all the program's administrivia is dealt with timely and
to Google's satisfaction
* recruit a team (mentors and steering committee)
* motivate community participation and student's recruitment
* participate in the selection of candidate students
* bring together student-mentor teams
* motivate and keep focused team members (students and mentors)
* troubleshoot and support each student-mentor teams
It's a temp job with irregular working hours and a few intensive peaks.
On average five hours a week over eight months, with peak of 10-15.
Start in March with student recruiting, three intense months over the
summer, finish in October, potentially with a rewarding trip to the
Mentor Summit on invitation by Google.

* knowledge of the hugin team and previous participation in the
hugin-ptx community
* knowledge of and relationships within the panoramic photography community
* knowledge of the hugin/enblend/panotools code base
Compensation:
this is a volunteer job. you will have the eternal gratitude of the
students and of the community.
Candidates are invited to come forward on this thread with a statement
of motivation and why they are the right person for the job. Public

backup admin if you want.
