Subject: Hello from a Newbie!

Hello everyone.

I have been running barefoot (that is without shoes) having been inspired
by reading about this amazing pastime and troubled with dodgy knees (some
Aussie slang).

I was going to ask about calf pain, but reading Ken Bob's book has sorted
that out. Relax...and the cramps stop. Amazing.

Anyway, I have a dilemma. While still running shod, I booked myself in for
a half marathon in about 2 months' time. I am wondering if I should risk
it.

At the moment, I can do 5 kms every second day without pain. I have
followed Ken Bob's instructions and it almost feels like meditation now.
Bent knees, relaxed shoulders etc. Almost fell asleep this afternoon. I
have not yet had a blister. Perhaps it helps that I work barefoot at my
stand up desk nearly every day and have all manner of blocks on the floor
to calf raise, sissy squat etc. My wife thinks I'm a lunatic! I'm still
very slow, but am not worried about that at the moment.

Do you guys think that 25 kms is too much to do in 2 months' time? I really
would like to do it properly barefoot. I'm worried that using minimalist
footwear will have me damaging something. I love the lightness that
barefootting gives.

Probably one of those "how long's a piece of string?" questions. But one
way of introducing myself.

B
