Minimalist Runner - Barefoot, Sandals, Shoes Google Group

This group seeks to dispel the myth that you need an overly supportive, cushioned, orthopedic shoe-boot in order to push the limits of human potential in running and exploring the world. We welcome discussions on topics brought up in Christopher McDougall's best-selling book "Born to Run"

Transiting barefoot

Dan, you are the man! I totally agree with your thinking. Running barefoot for 26 miles is just more than physical transitioning. You need help from your will and brain. What's going on in your body in barefoot running is complex. Like half marathon comparing with full is not even close enduring pains to maintain a marathon pace speed. Expert analysis of barefoot running based on observations without actual marathon experiences has not much practical value to my personal experiences. I totally revised my barefoot running. barefoot Ted, Ken Bob, Josh, Tim, etc are all good and valuable but you still have to mold, form, revise, and adjust to your own unique nature of body capacity. For instance, pain over joy or enduring pain is just the pain or higher meaning. It's about limbic brain or neocortex. I only ran four barefoot marathons in the last ten months, next one on 6-2-13 San Diego rock & roll. It's to me more about mental training than physical while paying attention on each step at a time. It's such a fascinating challenges even though my old body refuses to cooperate my desire quite often. To me, training your brain is the essential element for bare footing.

Iodine - Why you need it by Dr MD David Brownstein - Easy quick read but really
good stuff in it. Well explained. Flouride, Bromide, Chloride and Perchlorate
what an eye opener!

Magnesium Miracle by Dr Carolyn Dean - I enjoyed this book too some really
helpful things in there.

Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss - I kind of knew how the industry worked

Fascinating how Astronaut Chris Hadfield (my nominee for coolest astronaut
in history) reports upon returning to Earth last week that,
...after nearly five months of floating, his feet had lost all cushioning
I would quibble with his use of the word "calluses", but I'd never heard
of this effect on feet before. Lawrence, you are giving USA pretty good lecture about "Posture" which is the essence of good running form. Late Micha True said that the most important thing in running is "form." without good form a runner does not last long said by another great Alberto Salazar. He himself acknowledge that his form was bad, and injuries follow as a result thereof. Forgive me Lawrence, l still like Gordo's comment. He nailed you, LOL. Just kidding Lawrence.

I'm hoping to make a trip home (southern Maine) from Tokyo some time in
September, and would love to find a race to run while there.
Trails, 50 km - 50 mile, the more climbing the better. Hey, I'm just reading from the website:
"This is our barefoot Oxford characterized by a plain toe and distinctive,
saddle-shaped panel placed in the mid foot. This two tone casual mixes
classic styling with all our barefoot ingredients to firmly place the
saddle as an essential for any aging pimp or American college book worm."

Thanks to this lovely group, I no longer use shampoo or deodorant and use soap only for hand washing. I just got a puppy that will eventually be my running buddy. She's a stinky little pup as she is in the deworming process...what do you paleo washers use to wash your dogs? I can't imagine using dog shampoo if I don't use shampoo myself, so maybe baking soda?

I agree with Tuck's analysis on this because in reality there is no substitution for actual running in barefoot. Some times, just ignore those observational analysis. Just listen to your body while running. My better learnings occur while struggling after 20 miles. You really can feel and run more of your body.
