I have recently been tasked with Benchmarking some websites that we
are migrating to my companies hosting platform, and as part of this
task, i am suposed to generate some realistic load times for certain
pages and actions performed. I have been using the Fiddler to track
these results, but after comparing the results to those generated by
the Net tab in Firefox I'm having trouble distinguishing which tool is
correct.

For example, Firebug returns a load time of 4-6 seconds, but the same
value captured by the Fiddler application reports a time of 9-13.

With that being said i am new to this, and anyone has some feedback to
offer on General Website benchmarking, that would be great.

See http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler/Perf/ for an introduction to the
topic. Be sure to use Fiddler's "Streaming mode" if you're interested
in low-level network timings.
