Kabardino-Balkaria: Ministry of Interior in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria Lodged an Application against the Weekly Newspaper "Gazeta Yuga"

Human Rights Center "Memorial" reported earlier about the kidnapping, tortures and the subsequent prosecution of resident of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria (KBR) Inal Berov by police officers (http://www.memo.ru/eng/news/2012/04/26/2604121.html).
We sent an appeal to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, A.I. Bastrykin with the request to investigate and take under his control crimes committed by the officials of law enforcement agencies. Also the letter briefly described a case of tortures of Berov.
The story of abduction and harassment of Berov by police was published by some media. The weekly newspaper "Gazeta Yuga" described the torture and beatings in the Interior Ministry building in the KBR in detail (Oleg Guseinov, "Where do we have a needle with AIDS?" / / "Gazeta Yuga", № 16 (945) April 19: http://www.memo .ru/uploads/files/751.pdf. Oleg Guseinov, "The key was found in the closet" / / "Gazeta Yuga", № 17 (946) April 26, 2012: http://www.memo.ru/uploads/ files/752.pdf).
As it became known to HRC "Memorial", Ministry of Interior in the KBR lodged an application to protect the honor, dignity and business reputation with the requirement to "oblige the weekly newspaper "Gazeta Yuga" to publish the disclaimer to the information contained in the article "Where do we have a needle with AIDS? " as contradicting with reality and discrediting honor, dignity and business reputation of the Ministry of Interior in the KBR"(a claim of the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation: http://www.memo.ru/uploads/files/753.pdf).
HRC "Memorial" will monitor the developments of the events around the weekly newspaper "Gazeta Yuga."
