Build is Gigabyte GA-z77x-up5 th with Nvidi 560 ti graphics card.

None of the firewire ports work.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a firewire card that works with this MB?

Also, every several days I get a screen filled with little squares, mostly red.  I restart, the artifacts go away and don't come back for several days.  Occasionally, I'll see a random square on the monitor.  I move a window over it and it goes away.  Any suggestions welcomed.

thanks,

JIm

I think you should be troubleshooting the built-in Firewire rather
than looking for a Firewire card. There have been some problematic
Firewire chipsets in the past, but that past has been gone a long time
now, and any modern Firewire chipset should be fully supported in all
versions of OS X AFAIK. I believe it's likely you've got a software
issue here, not a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue, you've
probably got a bad motherboard problem, not an unsupported chipset.
Others with this same board are not reporting any Firewire issues in
OS X.

Have you tried the latest NVidia drivers which Tonymacx86 posted about yesterday on his site? Worth a shot.

From the main system of mosslack...

Indeed.

I haven't seen ANY OS X/Firewire chip set incompatibilities in years and
years and years.

The early VIAs were bad news, but they got their act together.
