A friend loaned me an iPod Touch for a week or two for me to
experiment with and see if I reall want one.

Query: How do I Archive it / Back it up so I can 'fully use it'
myself... load apps, media, songs etc WITHOUT messing up their
settings?

My friend is of NO use on these questions... beyond turning on and
doing what software/manuals say to do she's completely lost and/or
frightened. :-)

I have quite limited iPod knowledge beyond the Ver. 1 iPod Shuffle I
recently started using.

Offlist would be fine for responses.
Appreciate any pointers, links, even a good Flaming (if it's Funny!)

Have your friend completely back it up., then restore it to factory
settings.

Do what you want, then when you're done, reset it to factory settings
again, and have your friend restore it with her backup on her
computer...everything will go back to original.
