Hi,

I would like to hear from list members who have done HPI at home. I'm
mainly interested in how the donor "material" can be handled
hygienically, mixed with saline and psyllium, and infused. Please
post directly to the group so others will benefit from your
information.

Thanks,

J

Hi,

Follow up--has anyone done HPI at home, or know someone who has? We
can speak anonymously if required.

Also, some of you may use the C. Diff Support web site:
cdiffsupport.com. It isn't well-maintained, and emails to admins
aren't answered. Does anyone have a direct contact for the site
admins?

Thanks,

J.

I have done HPI at home. I used a reusable rubber enema bag for
infusion, stool containers that are used for stool collection for
stool test, Distilled water as solvent/dillutant and for cleaning, got
a blender to mix the stuff. I used antiseptic germicidal ( Dettol or
savlon brands) for cleaning the apparatus after infusion and then
dipped everything ( including the enema bad, stool collector, blender
bowl ) in to a bucket full of the antiseptic germicidal + water and
rinsed it with distilled water before use.

Here are the steps I followed:

1. Collected stool in sanitized container
2. Removed the apparatus dipped in antiseptic solvent and rinsed with
distilled water
3. Transfer stool to blender bowl, add a teaspoon of psyllium husk,
and some water
4. Run the blender for 15-20 second
5. Transfer the preparation to Enema bag.
6. Hang Enema bag 2-3 feet higher than your body level.
7. Start infusion and let it complete for ~ 5-10 min lying down in
foetal position. we need tissues for cleaning and petroleum jelly as
lubricant as well.
8. Keep lying for 15-20 min
9. Rinse the apparatus with water and put it back in a fresh
antiseptic germicidal + water solution
10. Lie down again in foetal position for ~ 1 hr
