for anyone wanting to join.

Bring $25 cash or a check for the same amount made payable to Houston

There are nine check points on this ride not including the start and
finish at La Quinta.

This means that time management at each stop is going to be critical
if you don't want to be still riding and watching the sun rise on
Sunday morning.

Ten minutes spent at each check point will cost 1 -1/2 hours out of
the ride; 20 minutes will cost you a whopping 3 hours not going
anywhere; half an hour at each stop will cost ... well, you get the
picture.

20 minutes goes past very quickly, particularly if you are tired and
not focussing on taking care of your business.

I have observed that it is often the fastest riders who seem to take
the longest at the check points, but they are also the ones who have
the abilty to make up the time once they get back on the road. But if
you are one of the slowest riders, then from the second you get off
the bike you need to be counting the minutes before getting back on.
Even if you are tired, you are making better progress going down the
road at 10 MPH than sitting in a c' store going no where.

At Bessies Creek last year, the best times were made by the racers who
had a finely honed program of refueling and adjusting their gear every
time they came through the pit stop.

Nine pit stops on this 400K is going to require the same careful
attention to details, so that you don't end having to call for help
when you run out of steam and time. :-)

Here it is late on Tuesday and still only 8 signed up for this ride.

If anyone is sitting on the fence you should know the weather forecast
is for strong tail winds in both directions and downhills coming and
going.

This ride will be a piece of cake. Sign up so you don't miss the fun.

Congrats to Janet on her first 400 km. You should have herd Pam and Janet singing along at the Pig and Whistle Bar, with the band. Thanks Ken for hosting, and thanks to all that adjusted their ride to hang with the group. DD
