Judge Reagan Helm, a Republican in Harris county is, according to the Bar
Association, the worst judge in the whole county.
Now, his DA's office filed charges against him and have asked him to recuse
himself from over 70 domestic abuse cases.

The Republican judge has long had a *folks* manner that Republicans like in
politicians.
When a domestic violence victims appear before him, he often attacks them
for being weak.
Often, as these crime victims tell their stories on the stand, he breaks out
in a chuckle or even an outright laugh.
While just one or two such instances would be excusable, it has gone on so
long that the DA was able to put together a file documenting this misconduct
going back more than 10 years.

This week, the Republican will appear before the state bar association to
explain his immoral conduct.
If he cannot come up with an appropriate reason for laughing at crime
victims when they testify, he faces losing his seat on the bench.

Several lawyers have come forward to say that they will testify in defense
of the judge - but they're all Republicans, and don't really have any way to
defend the judge's immoral behavior.
It won't be very helpful to the judge - but it should win them a lot of
points with other Republicans who think that wife-beating and child abuse is
just, plain funny.
And that is a LOT of judges.

Fortunately the Democrats are now sweeping Republican
judges out of office in Houston (Dallas has been doing it
for years). In the last election 25 of 27 judgeships on the
ballot were won by Democrats. Harris county may not be
totally blue yet, but it has shifted from solid red to a deep
purple...
