Printing Company - May 1992 to August 2001
From May of 1992 until August of 2001, I was a co-partner opening three printing companies in Minsk, Belarus. I worked in all aspects
of the printing businesses, from the initial marketing and the acquisition of new clients to producing the final product. My business partner, and I grew into two separate parts
of the business. He became the Business Manager, and I became the Technical Manager. I eventually became the Digital Color Supervisor and Manager of the Prepress Department supporting
all three printing companies. I held the following positions in the main company:
Digital Color Supervisor/ Manager of Prepress Department
(May 1998 to August 2001)
Directed
a team of graphic professionals for pre-press production. Designed/developed all printed promotional and marketing materials. Responsibilities included creative control and development
of all published materials from conception through implementation. Worked under pressure of short deadlines, as well as handled multiple projects at different stages of development.
Materials generated have included brochures, posters, visit cards, newsletters, catalogues, monthly magazines, annual reports, sell sheets, instructional manuals, promotional material,
packaging, technical illustration. Also troubleshooting problematic files that come from other customers, including color correction, photo retouching and mask cutting, trapping,
color separation and outputting to various imagesetters (Scantext Otello/Rondo, Scantext Futuro) plus very heavy photoshop manipulation of files. Working on all major desktop publication
software, including QuarkXpress, Imposition, Illustrator, CorelDraw, FreeHand, and PageMaker. Also was responsible for management, customer consultation, production coordination,
and scheduling of prepress department, and maintain a database of over 50gigs of information.
Electronic Prepress Manager/ Computer Graphic Artist
(January 1996 to April 1998)
Primary
artist for preparing files for output to positive film on Scantext Imagesetter. Responsibilities included: design, layout, art, page assembly, scanning of black and white and color
photos and line art, including color correction, photo retouching, digital photographic effects, silhouetting, filtering, and also imposing pages for output to large film format
as working signatures using sophisticated software and working on Macs & PCs. Was primarily responsible for examining all PC and Macintosh documents created by ad agencies, print
shops, and free-lance artists, for correcting customer files in the various programs in which they were created to determine if all the client's electronic files were present,
linked, saved properly, and workable. It was my duty to ascertain whether, or not, the document would image correctly, prevent any suspect problems, link files, find fonts and
send to an imagesetter. Interacting with customers on prepress setup, layouts, and production.

Responsibilities included:
create/design art and layouts, flatbed scanning of reflective and transparent art to be placed in customer and house documents, format type and assemble pages for various print
publications (booklets, brochures, posters, etc.), open disks, inspect and troubleshoot files, edit customer files for traditional offset print (color and B&W), edit color (bitmap
or vector art) for correct output by specific print device, create files in PDF format, transmit through email, and create CD’s for client documentation.
