You should be able to use your iPhone to check your Google Apps email by 1) using the built-in Mail app and downloading your email with POP, or 2) using the Safari browser to simply log in to your email and check it online like you would with any other computer or browser
I've tried setting up Google App Gmail on my iPhone using my old settings from my Nokia e62 and it doesn't seem to work at all. Anyone out there confirm if this works? I used the "other" selection in the configuration. I did not pick "GMail" as the mailbox type.

I'm having the same problem. The iPhone seems to recogize the pop.gmail.com server and sets the account as a "gmail" account, forcing the login name to become [email address]@gmail.com, which obviously doesn't work. Using the web browser as a workaround for this for now, but obviously would like to get this working ASAP.

You can't access your hosted domain because the email configuration does NOT allow the option of 1) assigning the ports 995/465/587 or 2) using SSL. I'm almost entirely certain this WOULD be feasible if the default Gmail/iPhone setting didn't automatically append @gmail.com to your user info.
Welcome to the bumpy ride of first generation. I'd like to believe Apple will provide a fix to this, soon.

I'm pretty sure it automatically assigns port 995 when using SSL.
I wouldn't get too angry over this. Yeah, it's an obvious bug, but it's also one that's super easy to fix via a simple software update. I wouldn't be surprised if it only takes Apple a few days.
