*Peter Horton Prayer Update*

*UW Madison September 2012*

"The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.  Ask the Lord of the
harvest to send out workers.  Go!”  Luke 10

When it comes to reaching the UW Madison, we need a lot more than good
intentions and good plans.  We need God’s heart, God’s wisdom, God’s power,
and God's calling.  In every way we need God.

That’s part of the reason I took on this new/old role directing the
ministry at the UW.  To help the staff and students grow in their
dependence upon God in prayer while actually involved in it.

This update I want to tell you about three distinct cultures and largely
unreached student groups on the UW campus.  Groups that the Lord wants us
to pray for and reach.

*Pray that the Lord would send out more workers into these UW Madison
Campus Field and p**ray for a great harvest this year.  *

*Pray for me that I would lead well and bless these staff and the students
I serve.*

*L**ord, who will reach these Chinese Students?*

Last year I visited UW’s Union South on a day when hundreds of
international students from China arrived for orientation (over 3500
undergrads applied to the UW this year).  My prayer was, Lord who will
reach these students?  This year Undergrad IV is starting a small group and
a social gathering for Chinese students!

*Praise God for this answered prayer and pray that our outreach would grow
and bear fruit and reach all the Chinese undergrads attending the UW.  *

Fact - There were over 4000 international students at the UW in 2010 and
the numbers continue to grow yearly.

*Can you be Greek and Christian?*

At the end of a recent Greek IV meeting, Zoe a Delta Gamma , asked Eric
Holmer (Geek staff) for the notes to his talk “Can you be Greek and
Christian.”  When he asked her what she wanted it for she said she has a
lot of sisters (girls in her greek house) who need to hear it.  The next
week Zoe brought a group of them with her.

Pray for more Christian students in the Greek system to have Zoe's heart
and passion for the gospel.   Pray also for her witness to the women in DG.

Fact - There are over 2500 UW students involved in the Greek system.

*Why would you want to be involved in AAIV?*

At the first Asian American IV large group Calvin, the AAIV staff, asked
students to stand up as a testimony to how God has impacted their lives
through AAIV: 7 students had become Christians, 12 made lordship decisions,
and 20 saw their relationships’ with Jesus significantly deepened.

*Pray for the 5 AAIV small group leaders, at the meeting 73 students signed
up for small groups.*

Fact - Over 2,200 Asian American students are enrolled at the UW and AAIV
is the only real witness to many of them.

*What’s new with the Horton’s?*

Our week in Door County was a good break.  Jake and Peter got to go fishing
on Green Bay: the Walleye was delicious.  Ela, rode a horse for the first
time and now wants to be a horse trainer when she grows up.  And Laurie
took long walks every morning.   I also enjoyed riding my bike around the
peninsula, I liked it so much I went back and road the Door County Century.
 And now school has started and the semester is in full swing and we wish
at times we could go back to that week in Door County.

*Pray that we would find opportunities to rest and enjoy each another in
the midst of a busy schedule of baseball, soccer, homework, ministry trips,
church, yada yada yada...*

*Partnership Update*

Thank you for all the ways that you’ve blessed me, my family and the staff
and students I serve.  Your support is a blessing and a sacrifice of love
to God and to us and to the campus.

Please continue to pray for my funding.  The Lord is providing through some
unexpected sources but my deficit is large and I’m working to increase my
regular giving.  If you want more specifics I’d be happy to share them with
you.

How can you help?  Pray, give, introduce me to others who might enjoy being
involved, pray some more.  Maybe the Lord will lead you to think of another
way you can help.  Let me know!

*Pray that the Lord would provide all we need to continue this ministry and
to grow the work here at the UW and across WI, MN and the Dakota’s.*
