It maybe a complete 蛇足, a "wide screen" means, I believe, is a screen with
a specific aspect ratio.
Therefore, a screen with one inch diagonal measurement can be a wide screen
as well.

In the meanwhile, the expression '6.5" wide screen' can mean a wide screen
with a diagonal measurement of 6.5" but it is not a very accurate statement
as it does not specify explicitly whether 6.5" is a diagonal measurement or
the width (or horizontal measurement) of the screen. It's still a matter of
convention.

Sure, but the string was:

> 6.5" WIDE COLOR LCD MONITOR

For me, there is the possibility to interpret that as [6.5" wide] monitor, or [6.5"] wide (screen format) monitor.

The _wide screen_ was not explicit.

I guess you have to ask the author about the convention which he is relying on if you are still not sure (I realize that you may not be able to reach him).

One thing that is clear to me is that you had to ask other people what it means because it was not clear to you.
You lacked the knowledge of the industry's convention and I know you opted to ask the Honyaku crowd.
