When working in Mail on my Mac, I occasionally find that the Japanese
input isn't working, so that when I try to type in the Japanese, all
I get is that little booping sound you hear when you make some
invalid choice. Generally I fix it by shutting down Mail and starting
it up again. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

Which version of the OS are you using? I found Leopard had some
input-related quirks (though nothing I experienced using Mail) that
cleared up when I went to Snow Leopard. YMMV.

I'm using 10.4.11. ( I forget which cat that is.)

I'm sympathetic; I had so many bugs crop up in Mail (though not this
particular one) that I eventually switched to Thunderbird, which works
fine for me. However, millions of people seem to be quite enthusiastic
about Mail, so I don't know what's wrong with us few unlucky ones.
