年齢:20代後半から30代まで (経験に応じて40代も可)の男性

Age and sex discrimination is still openly practiced in Japan?  I remember being taken aback by that when I lived in Japan in the 80's.

Given that this is entirely off topic, I hope that those who might wish
to discuss it will be kind enough to take it to a more suitable forum.

What forum would that be, pray tell?

Anywhere but here, Ray.

Seriously, however, there is more than one "not-honyaku" forum, where
such a discussion would undoubtedly be welcome.

In all due respect, I think one of three list owners is ちょっと調子乗りすぎっすよ.
How is Mr. Spar's comment off topic?
It looks to me like a posting on a "professional" forum about
discriminatory employment practices.
2010: Moderation in moderation.

Not only discriminatory but also illegal:

第五条 事業主は、労働者の募集及び採用について、その性別にかかわりなく均等な機会を与えなければならない。

Well noted with thanks.

Articl 5 of 雇用の分野における男女の均等な機会及び待遇の確保等に関する法律 (Act on Securing, etc. of Equal Opportunity and Treatment between Men and Women in Employment) stipulates the equal opportunity in terms of gender, but not necessarily of AGE.

Disputes on whether or not the business procedure of the job offerer(s)
is illegal are obviously beyond the scope of normal discussion here.

If you would like to continue studying this specific case (where desirabl
ages are indicated), you may want to avail other media or facilities,
in compliance with the recommendation of the moderator.

Mak Sakamoto

Perhaps I am indeed one of those discriminated in terms of years
of age (not years of experience) in translation services, and thus
I am much concerned with the actual glass ceilings constructed
with the translation services industry here in Japan.

A single search for age limit issues, I have found the following page
very discouraging and interesting:
http://www.roudoukyoku.go.jp/entrepreneur/20070925-kintou/20070925-kintou.html
An employer can readily find its convenient conditions for exemption.

At any rate, I am now happy with those real EOEs of contract
translation job offerers in Europe.

Thanks and regards,

It was off topic because, it did not address any translation-related issue.

If Mr. Spar had mentioned that there are laws against discriminatory
employment practices even in Japan, and that he was dismayed to see such
laws flouted openly on this list, I might or might not have hit the Send
button quite as quickly. As it was, his message did no more than
express a personal sentiment without furthering discussion of a
translation-related issue, which is why I commented immediately.

> 2010: Moderation in moderation.
If people would follow the posting guidelines, there would be nothing to
moderate.

I might also note that accusing a moderator of being ちょっと調子乗りす
ぎ is an ad hominem comment---something which is specifically eschewed
in the posting guidelines.

If there is anyone who is dissatisfied with the above rationale and
wishes to discuss more thoroughly what is or isn't appropriate for
posting to Honyaku, I would appreciate it if they would start a new
thread to discuss that particular issue. But please discuss the issue and
only the issue, not the personalities involved.

Better still, I encourage anyone who thinks that the list is
over-managed to consider standing for election this coming April.

Oh, and if there is anyone who wishes to discuss the issue of how
elections are held, please do so by the end of February, because unlike
last year we are not going to entertain any changes to the election
process once the call for candidates goes out.

Last but not least, for those who have a specific comment, question, or
request, please feel free to send a message to HonyakuMods!@yahoogroups.com.
