Have you guys ever ridden the bus before? My farthest journey was from Waikiki to Waipahu. Do you have any opinions about the bus? I know I do.
Join me and the City & County of Honolulu in an event at Greenhouse, next Thursday during lunch. Any time between 9AM and 12PM, walk outside and catch the bus to the Greenhouse. Document your trip through social media by taking pictures, video, tweets, status updates, smoke signals using the hashtag #DaBusHNL. You can get a free lunch provided by Hawaii Open Data by using social media and recording your trip!
RSVP here with your twitter handle: http://dabushnl.eventbrite.com/
Click the link to get more information, I'll see you there!

Thanks Matt. It will be quite the experience. I'll be catching the Bus
from Pearl City to town. I can't remember the last time I did that.

Speaking of DaBus,  who has experience using the Google Transit and GTFS
I'm playing around with a Seeduino, GPS Bee and a GPRS shield for someone here.
They were talking about using GTFS data and I'm starting to dig into all of the above.

note - GPSBee is an XBee form factor GPS board, with not a whole lotta info or working examples.

As someone who rides the bus a few times each week, I find the hoopla
over riding the bus somewhere kind of amusing. Those of us that are
regular riders don't find it such an alien experience that we have to
document our trips through social media :)

I had not heard of the DaBus iOS app (is it advertised anywhere?), so
I downloaded that. Good luck with the meetup, I can't make it in the
middle of a weekday.

Howz it Robert,

Its less about the bus and more about the process. The API that OTS built was the first government data API in Hawaii that I know of. It proved the power of making government data available in a standard form and then empowering people to build upon it.

Its been a powerful example for me to prove to my colleagues here at the City that we should be making more of this data available.

Really its just a celebration of of the efforts of the All Bus and Da Bus teams.

OK, that's cool. I certainly have been extremely pleased that TheBus
was an early adopter of Google Transit, and the HEA system is
essential for any serious bus rider.

Well said Forest. This is a first step in the open data ecosystem and
the more examples of how citizens can leverage government data the
better. It is also a way to get the City to look at novel ways to use
social media. Through this process we are encouraging more interaction
with the community.

Hi Makers,

I've decided to give away my MakerBot Thing-o-Matic with a Plastruder
MK5. I'd like to give it to HiCapacity makerspace if there's space to
take it on. It'll come with all my ABS plastic feed stock (probably
around 2.5kg worth). If not, my second preference would be to give it
to a starving college student who has lots of time and interest to
play with this thing.

Right now it can do some decent prints, but it's not perfectly
calibrated. With tweaking, I think it can work very well. One of my
friends has been using it to print a bunch of new product designs hes'
been working on. He got some good looking results, so I know it's
possible to get great prints if you just work with it enough.

The machine can be upgraded to the StepStruder MK7 which is a much
more superior print head, and would give you much finer resolution
than the original plastruders.

Ooh! Can HICap have it? We have some room to store things at the space. Our printrbot 3D printers have not yet arrived, and I would like to get started  :-(

Woot!!
If HiCapacity can't at box jelly, would you be willing to let one of the principle members hold it at home till the have a space for it? They could bring it to space regularly.

Hehe, sure. If you haven't already, go ahead and download your copy
of replicator G and check out the examples. I'll bring it to the
space either tonight or tomorrow.

I'll try to make a quick start video so you can get printing quickly.

Awesome! Thank you! We were saving some cash for one of the new Replicators too. At $1800 (after shipping), it can get quite expensive. The Thing-O-Matic would be perfect!

Alright, I'll be bringing the MakerBot by the Jelly this Saturday.
Here's a quick start video for anyone who wants to use it:

Hey Matt,
It was fun. I collected a bunch of tweets. Brian Dote created this
site to map the tweets as they came in. He created last night,
amazing.

You can also scan the hashtag #DaBusHNL to get an idea of what people
were experiencing.
