Hi to all,

I'm on Oahu for next two weeks and would love to drop in and visit.

A group of us on Kauai are interested in starting a makers space and I'd love to get advice from y'all.!

What times would be good to visit?

Woot!!  Progress from September.

Dont worry too much about space, costs, etc at first.  Your first job is to gather people.

Start meeting up someplace... dinners often work well as a way to gather people.
Talk up the possibilities and drag some friends to meetings.
There were lots of emails/forum postings about an Oahu space for months.
Then I insisted they meet me for dinner while I was visiting.... within two weeks they had name, domain, etc.
Crashspace (LA) started with a couple hour meeting at a coffee place, followed by dinners.

and be open to people with lots of diverse ideas of Making.
Computer security, web development is cool but so is physical making- electronics, wood, metal, etc.

Hello, I'm Matthew, one of the founders of HI Capacity. Although we're 'open' from 6PM to Midnight on weekdays and 11AM to 6PM on weekends, we're there mostly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. A few people will show up on Saturday mornings to code and a few others will show up on Sundays to build hardware projects and make things. We're having a hardware night on Wednesday, I'll be there trying out an RGB LED strip.
Let me know!

Thanks everyone! Thanks HI Cap for letting me visit last night.

Hope to visit Greenhouse Innovation Hub next week for one of the
talks.

The board of HI Cap echoed Jerry's advice: start meeting. So we'll get
something regular going on Kauai!

Cheers,
CrLz

Please do keep us posted on the Kauai MakerSpace effort.

As I have family (in-laws) out that way, I'm very interested in seeing how your group turns out, and what kind of needs your space may need in terms of startup funding, hackable devices, or equipment.

The more spaces and equipment our kids and hobbyists have access to, the better off we'll be.
