Home Grown Food will be holding a garden-bed making workshop based on
the principles of hugelkultur on Saturday, November 3, at the home of
Cindy Roberts in the Terry Lake area just north of Fort Collins. HGF
is requesting a $10 donation from attendees.
The workshop, which will run from 9 am to 2 pm, will demonstrate how
to build a raised bed in the form of a soil-covered mound of logs and
branches that will conserve water and create a rich soil that
continues to improve over a number of years.
With drought increasingly in the region's forecast, this method of
creating soil and growing crops has great value for us (particularly
if we have the means to dig a deep trench and sink the woody material
deep into the soil, creating a slightly depressed planting bed so that
our torrential rains would drain into, instead of away).
The workshop will be led by Tara Parr. Bring a snack to share, if you
are able. As space is limited, please RSVP to Tara at
970-493-0799.
