An intriguing tomato watering/fertilizing system

This gardener in Pennsylvania drilled two lines of holes in a small
plastic can, filled it with compost and buried it to the rim in the
soil, then planted four tomatoes around it and made a large cage
around that. He filled the bucket with additional water every 2 days.
He reports 5-foot tall toms a month later, loaded with blossoms and
green fruit. (I would have worried that the steady stream of compost
tea might have promoted too much leaf growth but it doesn't sound like
it. I may try this with one set of tomatoes this year.
