Somebody signed their post Halcyon and I wondered what it meant. I got this following email using this word. It is Greek and means a time of peace and prosperity.

Subject: [HQR] Halcyon Interaction: Spending Time with Family!
Date: Sunday, June 15, 2008 3:07:00 AM [View Source]
Dear Friends
The older we get the more it seems that the most valuable time is the
time spent with family… What to make of this halcyon interaction?
. Whilst it is fun to spend time with family it also requires bravery
to face up to the past, the present and the future simultaneously.
. Family time seems to be a microcosm of the whole world and more,
bringing out all our virtues and vices forward at the speed of light.
. Each halcyon moment of interaction becomes an indelible memory as it
happens — humorous, tense-in-unison or adverserial — as if in slow
motion! Why? Any answers…
. The other aspect to family time is the feeling that it moves slowly
or moves too fast but never normally. Is it our love which creates
gravity which causes time to dilate in convex or concave curvatures?
. Is this just my feeling or have you felt something similar?
. What is the most valuable time spent by you and when spending it,
does time go fast, slow down, or cease to exist?
. All artistic and scientific answers are equally welcome!

With love and warm wishes to you and family

I intend to answer him what I’m about to write here.
I feel that we each are in our own bubble or realm. We co-create with our higher power the current reality within our own bubble an entire universe. Family are simply reflections of things about ourselves that we need to learn from spirit. Family are much more exacting in their reflection of our true self. The fact that we are emotionally attached to them intensifies both the good and the more challenging aspects of our interac
tions with them. The mirror shows the real hard truth. Sometimes, the truth is pleasing. Other times, it is like Frankenstein’s monstor, our creation is too horrifying, too close for comfort, too honest, too raw. Like the story- Dorian Grey. He is out and about, being young and handsome. In his soul he is old, self centered, greedy, egotistical, etc.. The paintiing of him shows the true being he really is. When we are with family, relatives, we see our true, real being, like the painting. It’s not always flattering or pretty, especially if we come from a disfunctional background, as I was. My goal is to progress spiritually the most anyone ever has in the history of humankind. That may mean I had to come from a very low place to get to a very high place in the shortest time possible. The advantage of this is that I can thus have memories of many ways of being human and have compassion and understanding for more people or mindsets. When I was initiated into Transcendental Meditation
, at age 15, I eventually found out I was given the highest mantra allowed. I looked my mantra up in an Eckankar Sancrit Dictionary and my mantra meant- Compassion of the universe. This, according to TM, is the highest state there is- compassion. When we have compassion for others, we have compassion for ourselves. Since there is no they, there is no them, there is only us and our creator, they and them are manefestations of our interaction with the God head. With the reflections of spirit most like us, or family, we see the good, the bad and the ugly. The more pure we can be in our daily lives, by pure I mean, keeping positive thoughts and emotions, remaining serene and blissful, training our consciousness to stay that way, as a matter of habit, the more pleasing our reflections (the family images) can and do shift to a more pleasing way of being. Thus the family is friendlier, nicer, happier. We get very instant obvious results of our current state of conscousness by observing th
e behavior of our reflections of spirit or images of ourself in different masks. Each soul is a bubble of the same type of thing. We are each in a sand box alone with God and our manefestations. The tapestry of creation has each bubble blending yet separate. We are all simaltaneously part of a gigantic collective, like the ocean of love and mercy as in Eckankar. The ocean is filled with tiny lights, and infinite amount of them. These lights represent individual souls, and each individual soul bubble is a duplicate of the giant collective, and within the bubble it is it’s own gigantic omnipresent infinitely powerful universe. Family brings out the best and worst. The extremes are very helpful when one understands this because we can really see the difference between black and white. Then we can know what to duplicate, the bliss mindset. If the extreme is a negative or challenge, we can follow the thread back to the action, feeling or thought that brought it on and learn to delete th
at sort of thing from our existance as a form or habit. When we learn to train our consciousness we can have bliss to do with our family. King Solomon did this. He learned to put wisdom above all things and was able to withstand the biggest family any human that I’m aware of ever had. When one of the potential apostles told Jesus he had to go bury his father, Jesus more or less told him, let the dead bury the dead, we’ve got important things to do here. Buddha left his wife and child to go pursue his path, later returning making his son a priest or something and taking his aunt/stepmother with him and left again, who became the first nun. Many great spiritual masters have left family behind. It’s much easier. That doesn’t mean it’s right. King Soloman understood this concept. In “Something in this Book is True” by Bob Frissel, he talks about Leonard Orr who starting the rebirthing movement. Leonard studied long and hard ascended masters, or humans who still maintained a healthy bod
y of 300 years minimum age. He reported that he found 8 and some were much older than 300. He asked one what’s the secret. The guy said, “Stay away from humans!” Well, yes, it is much easier. Much. But, is it right? Is it ideal? The catholic church tried so hard with this with the nuns and priesthood, with celebacy and no family life for this reason. King Soloman demonstrated we are even above that, the need to live an austere quiet minimal existance in order to maintain the spiritual purity needed. King Soloman didn’t need to do it. He proved it. So have many other unsung heros of family life. So, when we are with family or mirrors of our flaws and talents, we just need to look harder inside of ourselves to be even better. Face the mirror gladly. Abraham Lincoln said, “I don’t like that man, I need to get to know him better.” He understood avoidance is not to one’s advantage. “The Secret”, by Rhonda Byrne has some very helpful ideas and techniques about things like this.
