Dear fellow comics fan:

The weather is cooling off, but things have been heating up in Hogan's
Alley! We're pleased to announce that we're sending issue #18 to the
printer this week, and we hope you'll enjoy reading the issue as much
as we've enjoyed putting it together. We think it's one of our best
yet. Here's a link to the cover:

If you want to ensure that you get a copy, the safest way is to
subscribe. (We won't offer the issue for individual purchase until we
make sure all subscribers receive their copies.) Comics shops and
newsstands typically sell out of Hogan's Alley very quickly. You can
easily subscribe here:

In other comics news, we recently learned that Universal Press
Syndicate, which absorbed United Feature Syndicate's operations
earlier this year, will not offer a short-run Christmas strip this
year. UFS's Christmas strip, syndicated through its Newspaper
Enterprise Assocation subsidiary, had a long history, dating to 1936,
but obviously the industry has undergone seismic changes since then.
Our source at Universal didn't indicate that the Christmas strip won't
return in future years, so time will tell.

Hogan's Alley is not known for its cutting-edge use of social media,
but we're on Twitter, and we've incorporated a "Today in Comics
History" fact-a-day to our tweets. Follow us at http://twitter.com/hoganmag
to receive an interesting historical cartooning fact each day, as well
as other cartooning news and developments regarding Hogan's Alley. We
promise to be restrained in our tweeting!

Thank you for reading. We encourage you to forward this e-mail to
