In case some of you have been lost by the very fragmented discussion, like I have, you can view the August 19, 2009 version of the CMAS proposal here:

Apparently the proposal is a work in progress and updates might or might not be found here or elsewhere in the underwaterhockeyworld forums:

As far as I can tell, there is no information on the CMAS website.

As many of you may know, CMAS is in some disarray. It is in deep financial distress; the secretary general resigned last month (he was basically running the organization - directing office, website content, etc); and control of the website was totally lost. The website has now been regained partially I guess. The site is up after being down for a while, but I don't think there has been or will be any info loaded onto it for a while - how long that is, I am totally uncertain. The CMAS BOD met on Saturday November 21, but I've had no word on agenda, discussion and/or decisions. There are no meeting minutes from the CMAS GA in May 2009 nor the BOD meeting of Sept 2009 yet to be seen.

On the CMAS UW Hockey Commission front, at least two things have happened recently: 1) a proposed calendar has been published by Tristan, NZ, as CMAS uwhockey tournament director; and 2) a proposed new structure for the commission was published in August 2009 and again recently - written and distributed by Romain, Belgium. I do not know for sure if either publication is or is not official from the commission, and both are PROPOSED - proposed meaning suggested. I believe contact has been and continues to be made between CMAS uwh commission president Thomas deTrebons, France, and the CMAS exec vice president, Ivan Nyiri, Hungary.

On the WAA front, the 2010 World Championships in Colombia are proceeding in an orderly fashion. Dates, location, etc announced. A website is expected soon. All countries and all divisions are welcomed. Membership in WAA is not required.

So, it seems to me that we have a choice:

Option A.) Support an organization in 'deep financial distress' that can't even update its own website or publish its meeting minutes.

Option B.) Attend an all-countries-welcome upcoming tournament that is on schedule and 'proceeding in an orderly fashion'.

Forgive me if I'm missing something here, but the correct choice seems blatantly obvious.

Phil,

The discussions on Hockeynet and related lists in the last couple of weeks have been interesting and informative.  The exchange of competing ideas among people with many of the same goals is good for all of us.  I haven't yet read the items Sean mentioned (keeping up with the threads on Hockeynet has been tough enough, for those of us who have other responsibilities).   But I don't see why you say we have a choice, or that a correct choice is obvious.

The US has said all along that we will attend the 2010 World Underwater Hockey Championships in Colombia.  I do not expect that to change.  At some time in the future, we may or may not attend CMAS events.  No choice is necessary, at least not this time.  Choices which may appear in some distant future, based on events which have not occurred at this time, will be made when appropriate.
