Health care reform will profoundly affect each of us
—so it’s too important to trust politicians to figure it out!!
Even if you’re healthy now with insurance you like, you’ll not always be healthy
and private insurance costs will continue to skyrocket
—so eventually this year’s health care legislation will impact you personally.
SINGLE-PAYER is not just another proposal.
It’s the ONLY proposal that:
~ eliminates $400 billion in current waste annually
~ covers everyone without spending more than
America already spends on health care!
~ provides comprehensive care (dental, mental health/drug treatment, prescriptions)
~ means your choice of doctor—not your choice of insurance plan
~ has public accountability (insurance companies are only accountable
to shareholders for profits!)
~ has a realistic funding plan which makes fiscal sense
If this seems too good to be true, get the facts from
Physicians for a National Health Program:
The health reform legislative process is underway and SINGLE PAYER is still not on the table—nor is the corporate media giving it fair, informative coverage. It’s simply dismissed as “politically impossible.” Unfortunately, we’re hearing from some SINGLE-PAYER supporters that they’re too disheartened to take action. The insurance and pharmaceutical industries have the money to fight real reform, so we must use what we have: OUR VOICES!
Thanks to the recipients of last week’s TALKING POINT who reported back on 214 calls (3 times more calls than the previous week!) It’s crucial for key policy makers to hear from citizens! They track contacts and every call counts!

Week 3: Call to Action!
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) determined Kennedy’s plan would increase the deficit $1 billion over 10 years while Baucus’ would increase the deficit $1.6 billion!
And each plan would leave millions of people uninsured.
The Ways and Means Committee MUST direct the CBO to score the cost of the SINGLE-PAYER bill, HR 676. Otherwise, Congress and the American people will not have the facts to compare SINGLE-PAYER to other proposals on Health Reform.
The TALKING POINT for this week is to Rep. Charles Rangel (Ways & Means Committee chair) and to members of the W&M subcommittee on Health.
STEP 1: Read this week’s TALKING POINT:
I am ___name_____ from ___city, state_____. It is essential that the CBO score HR 676 to determine the costs and coverage of SINGLE-PAYER compared to the other proposals. It appears that HR 676 will save $400 billion per year, but Americans need to know the facts. Please send HR 676 for scoring by the CBO today! Thank you.
STEP 2: Call Rep. Rangel and several subcommittee members on Health below and deliver the TALKING POINT. (Takes about 2 minutes/call.) The more calls, the better!
