There was other great stuff going on this month, but this notice was late since we’re just back in town from an as-fun-as-can-be wedding anniversary tour of America’s coast from North Carolina to Key West to New Orleans.
My goodness, the beautiful islands and beaches were very sharply contrasted by the devastation in Biloxi, Gulfport, and New Orleans. Bourbon Street and the 25th Annual French Quarter Festival was a never-ending party while just a short distance away was a night-day difference. Seeing the damage and neglect in person… almost indescribable. New Orleans had highway signs that mocked the lack of support from the Fed gov. Souvenir shops had clever items with slogans like: “Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was gone”, “Make Levees Not War”, many slogans ridiculing Bush and FEMA… We saw plenty of Bush and “Proud to be Republican” stickers/items in Florida, but not a single pro-Bush item in Nawlins.
On a separate note, it’s neat to note how “cool” it’s become to go green (including in some of the Katrina rebuild). It’s a substantial advance that what was once on the fringe is now commonplace, which is a testament to Progressives carrying that torch. Since Earth Day is coming up, there are many options in KC, including APRIL 25 for KC Green Summit. Crapshoot - The Gamble with Out Wastes
Running time 53 min.
A hazardous mix of waste is flushed into the sewer ever day. The billions gallons of water—combined with unknown quantities of chemicals, solvents, heavy metals, human waste and food—where does it go? And what will it do to us.
From ancient times, countries have chosen the sewer to get rid of house-hold and industrial chemicals, yet the contaminants we flush resurface in our food chain. Fish swim through waste water dumped into rivers, while sewage sludge is spread on farmland as fertilizer.

What a Way to Go - Life at the End of the Empire
Running time 122 min.
"Heart-felt and poignant, this documentary will touch you as very few things can. It will scare, and it will make you think. Though it will give you hope, it will leave you with no easy answers. This documentary does a thorough job of presenting the pending mega-crisis in all of its aspects, and then goes even deeper to probe all of the causes, both technological and social. A careful viewing will leave you stunned, informed, and ready to step off the train and begin dismantling the tracks. Watch it yourself, and then present it to as many people as you can. Your life, and your children’s lives, depend on it."
Tuesday - April 29, 7 p.m.
How to Save the World: One Man, One Cow, One Planet
Running time 56 min.
How To Save The World is a film that takes us into the heart of the world’s most important renaissance – something that few of us are aware is even happening. Hoes rather than swords are at the front-line of a battle for agricultural control that is being fought over Indian soil. Its outcome could well determine the future of the entire earth. Using biodynamic-organic methods, farmers of India are reclaiming their lands and livelihood. At the same time they’re exposing the corporate mantra of infinite growth in a finite world for the environmental and human disaster that it really is.

Construction on the first of two new Harmony Houses is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 1. This is the kick off for a "Blitz Week" where volunteers will raise the walls and put on the roof in just five days. To sign up OR for more information contact Gary Miles or check out the Harmony House information on the Social Responsibility Board in the Hallway near the kitchen. (garya.miles@yahoo.com)
