Workshops, Folk Fest & Open Mic updates

Greetings from House of Musical Traditions!

School’s back in session – and we have everything your child needs for
their school music program: Instrument rentals at great rates (see
http://www.hmtrad.com/catalog/rentals.html#band for details, and you
can even rent online), books, music stands, reeds, cleaning supplies
and other accessories.

But learning music isn’t just limited to the kids…we have plenty of
fall music workshops for adults too:

-Spaces are still available in Maureen Andary’s Beginner Ukulele
class, which starts this Saturday (Sept 10). Details at

-Grammy-winner Marcy Marxer will teach Beyond Beginner/Intermediate
and Advanced ukulele classes, starting September 21:

-Jim D’Ville will be bringing his popular “Play By Ear” uke workshops
to HMT on October 8: http://www.hmtrad.com/lessons/workshops.html#ukebyear

-We just booked a Mountain Dulcimer Discovery Workshop with
Connecticut State Troubadour Thomasina Levy! Saturday October 22,
1-3pm, $25. Details on our website soon. Dulcimers will be available
to borrow if you’d like to give this very accessible instrument a try.

-More ukulele: Strum For the Holidays with Maureen Andary starts

This Sunday, September 11, is the annual Takoma Park Folk Festival,
held at the Takoma Park Middle School. Check out http://www.tpff.org/
for the schedule and list of fantastic performers. This free festival
is a must-see for music lovers!

After the festival ends at 6pm, head on over to Capital City
Cheesecake (7071 Carroll Ave in Takoma) for our open mic which runs
until 9pm. We had a great turnout last Sunday with 19 performers and a
packed house. CCC offers sandwiches, soups, salads, beer & wine in
addition to cheesecake and other treats. If you’d like to get updates
