Happy to discuss, but first look at it, then look away, and look again.

and yet more changes!
this one differs between the previous in the following delicious ways;

- the left column is headed with a grand total "### Transaction in"

- Files and Accounts headers now have metrics (# Files, # Accounts) still very helpful when collapsed.

- in the main area, page controls (Add Chart Edit Search Register) get a subtle background, to differentiate from content

- Add Transaction dialog has "to [ file.journal ] dropdown

- Search summary line is below the searchbar, smaller, and has date parameters.

and minor tweaks.

In lieu of more detailed reply, for the moment: these are very interesting, good work!

More complexity on screen, but probably more efficient for power users.

Will look more when I get back to hledger work.

gracias

More complexity on screen, but probably more efficient for power users.

what are you talking about? we're ALL power users ;-)

yeah, there is a smallish increase in information density, but I dare say it would be more efficient, period, and the idea is, instead of multi-page navigation (fairly broken right now) the idea is that everything could happen on one page, and the user can toggle which elements are visible by clicking Add Chart Edit Search Register. That in combination with expanding/ collapsing register entries, Files list and Account list, means that the screen is as information dense as the user likes.

I think there's also a huge advantage of an optionally always-on Add transaction dialog, and if it were on the same page as the register, you could watch the new transactions mount in the list as you added them, constant visual confirmation of where you are at.

Will look more when I get back to hledger work.

Well cool, and I hope the crowdedness doesn't completely turn you off, because the information-completeness is very important, says me ;-)  thanks for the scrutinizing

this mockup focuses on how more metadata display might behave, and offers some language streamlining in eliminating the ultra redundant label word "transaction" and clearer account lists by eliminating the link-underline style and followed colors.

Clearly I'm experiencing mockup mania, but I wanted to share this concept for a right-side panel, showing a Search Summary, Tag cloud and list of attachments, this panel is ALL ABOUT the filtered results, the left-hand one is all about the source data.

Aieee now you're going too far.. that's got more stuff than facebook...

But with slidey panels of course it could work.

Thanks for the good mockups. We'll work towards one of these as at least a next step, to see how it feels.

sometimes only to far is far enough!!  but you're right of course, I'm sure we can squeeze in some LIKE buttons and widgets and avatars and games.. oh my!

But with slidey panels of course it could work.

I think the design should collapse down to almost nothing, if desired.

you're most welcome, I have one last one with a bit of proportion and alignment, and the last few visual feature requests :-) I swear though that I am all-mocked-up-out ! mocked out! for now, thanks for entertaining the ideas.

This is what happens when mock-up mania runs unchecked.. this is version big-h, and don't be alarmed if it looks a bit crowded, this is what it looks like with everything "turned on" including help-text.
