knowing the Amount is important, but knowing how it was arrived at is almost equally important.
The attached mockup illustrates a way that the Amount sources can be displayed along with the derived amounts.
Commodities cost formulas and an indication of which account is the "balancing" account, using a simple prepended "=",
As usual, there are probably better examples, and the syntax shown is dubious, but the idea of data transparency is what I'm trying to convey here.
