Clearly, does not sit well at all with the Tibetan monks. It
appears that the ultimate nightmare of China's ruling elites
is fast becoming a reality: A repeat of the TAM saga, in the
world stage under the full glare of the world press. Lhasa's
riot, not Beijing's NPC plenary meeting captured the attent-
ion of the world.
President Hu and his hand picked successor, were approved.
It's the hight of irony, perhaps befitting, that Lhasa.s riot
marked the ascension of, in the eyes of Tibetans the ruthless
destroyer of their culture and way of life.
The enchanting capital of the Himalayan plateau and spiritual
mecca of the world, is now in locked down mode. News and com-
munication channels were shutdown. Curfew was imposed by army
and police. Protesters were given the ultimatum: surrender by
midnight Monday, or, face the full wraths of PRC's machinery.
EU, USA and His Holiness, the Dali Lama, urged peace and calm
and respect for Tibet's culture. Needless to say, all Olympic
sponsors are anxiously watching with a weary eye.
Over their investments and potential PR nightmares ....

Reminds me of the old daze of square parents and hippy children.
Neither can understand the other. The Tibetans can't understand why
the Chinese are forcing them not to drink Lama pee and eat Lama poop
as medicine, not to live in dirty conditions without heat &
electricity, not to work like slaves for the good of Lamas, OTOH the
Chinese can't understand why Tibetans could be happy living like
hippies.
Who can say how much freedom is good. The the crazies who are now
roaming ours streets homeless better off than when they were locked up
in hospitals with 3 squares, warm bed & bath?
You misconception of Lhasa being the spiritual mecca of the world
is unfortunate widespread. But it is because many people fail to
distinguish between religiosity and spirituality.
Let me illustrate the difference with an example from the Christian
Bible.
Saul was a devoted Jews who persecuted the early Christians. Hence
he was religious in Judaism and anit-religious from the point of view
of
Christianity. He had an epiphany on the road to Damascus. And he was
converted to Christianity and he changed his name Paul. So he had
became religous in Christianity and anti-religious from the point of
view
of Judaism. However, either as Saul or as Paul, what undergriding his
religious devotion, first to Judaism and then to Christianity, was
his
spirituality. While religiosity is a manifestation of spirituality,
religiosity is not spirituality. Saul was spiritual while anti-
religous to
Christianity. Paul was equally spiritual while anti-religious to
Judaism.
Tibetans are deeply religious. They are more religious than many
other
peoples of the world. But they are not more spiritual to other
peoples of
the world. As a matter of fact, spirituality is fundamental to all
peoples.
Being human is being spiritual. Our shared spireituality enable us
to
invent great religions. Not the other way around. Relgion offer a way
for
us to express our spirituality. But religon is not the only way
through
which one can express and experience spirituality. Neither does
relgion
create spirituality.
Strictly speaking, it is wrong to say that Lhasa is the spiritual
mecca
of the world. Spirituality has no mecca. Spirituality is universal.
Lhasa is no
more spiritual than Hong Kong or Shanghai or New York. And the
tibetans
are not more spiritual that any other people of the world.
Unfortunately, many Tibetans and pro-Tibet supporters mistakenly view
religosity as spirituality. And they further take Tibetan religiosity
as the proof
that Tibetans are better people and should not be contaminated by the
like
of Han Chinese.

No, the Tibetans want the Chinese
out, much, much more urgently than
Australian aborigines would want a
similar outcome in Australia.

I bet no one is going to give back Australia to the aborigins. Anyone
suggests that would be looked on as somewhat crazy. For those
Aussies who see Australia as their country, I don't blame them.
As a matter of fact, there is no god devining which people should
have which piece of land, to hold and to own, for ever and ever.

international conspiracy, as some would have preferred.
Oops. The first plank supporting Tibet Independency is nothing but
hot air. No country is operating on "this people, this piece of land
principle" in the absence of international recognition.

Sounds like LT doesn't mind tyranny of the majority when it suits his

That's because Australian aborigines don't have a Dali Llama to fire

Yes, you are right. And it was the cold war and now the cold war
mentality.
Many in the west see China as their inevitable enemy. And then it was
the pro-Tibetan groups which are in some aspects anti-Chinese racist
groups.
The tragic of the DL is that he was not much of a political leader,
not 49
years ago, not now.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7279789.stm
I don't really know why the young people in Tibet rioted.
But I am not sure they really need good reasons.
I had watched the short video clip provided by the Chinese media
several times in which several guys destroyed one store fronts
after another. My gut feeling is that they were having fun. They
were not looting. They just did that as if it were a game. You
overran the enemy and then you raze their facilities.
However, this recent series of protests were externally driven.
For the "tibetans-in-exile" as wekk as their supporters, Tibetan
independency is based on the following.
1. Tibet is for ethnic tibetans only because it was so in the past.
2. China had committed genocide against the tibetans.
3. Tibetans are a spiritual people and superior hence they and their
culture should not contaminated by the Hen Chinese. The fact that
the DL is honored whereeever he goes reinforces the tibetans'
sense of racial superiority.
4. Many westerners still have a cold war mentally.

In a series of papal encyclicals ....
Issued by Pope Benedict to his flock, particularly Spe Savi,
the Holy Father's views on the damages committed by Marxism,
not to Chinese in particular but to humanity as a whole, was
remarkably similar to that of the Tibetan gentleman's.
Atheism, arrogantly puts human on the pedestal of divinity.
And be worshiped as deity. Consequently, it became extremely
destructive of human spirituality. China, not unlike Russia,
is fast becoming the empire of Darth Vada which puts its own
survival above all else. The entire country, lost its moral
bearing, and a robotic sea of humanity are believers of ends
justifying the means.

They are human after all. Humanity blinded by the CIA manipulating
their activities.
CIA is manipulating the activities behind these riots to "divide and
conquer" China.

A hundred dollar bill each will do nicely. The CIA has billions for
these activities, especially for Tibet and China.

Why not. He's paid. The money will pay for a month, perhaps, two,
living expenses. The more they destroyed and burned, the more money
the CIA is willing to give. The CIA is having fun, the rioters are
having fun and got paid more.

LT Lee, they are all externally driven from the very beginning. They
knew they will not get very far and might even get kill. The CIA
money is involved from the very beginning. They knew the CCP guns are
bigger than their bark.

All depends on CIA money. Divide and conquer. Create chaos and
dissension for China.
No. Human's spirituality can be differently channeled and expressed
but
not damaged. If a parent is concerning about his children's well
being
after he had died. His concern is a spiritual one. Not a material
one.
In this sense, the Chinese are also very spiritual. In contrast,
religiosity
can be readiy damaged as shown by the example of Saul/Paul. Saul's
religiosity on Judaism was totally destroyed by Christianity. But his
spirituality remained strong.
Actually, too much religiosity is frequently linked to abnormal
neurology in
the frontal lobe and/or the temporal lobe of the human brain.
http://meta-religion.com/Psychiatry/The_Paranormal/trascendent_experiences.htm
Morality is not linked to spirituality. For example, one may not
approve those who
performs the tantric sex ritualism on the ground of Christian
morality. Nevertheless,
such "immorality" can be a way to spirituality to the practitioners.

LT Lee is talking none-sense.
Not even that. Take this as example of cultural genocide and our
burtal occupation of Native America:
http://news.google.com/news?q=last+native+Eyak+speaker+died
Statistically not a single Tibet poster that's attacking SCC right now
had posted in soc.culture.usa about the product of our physical/
cultural genocide of Native Americans - elimination of a language.
It's very simple to check - search "Tibet" in SC.China and take down
sample names, and cross check them by search "Eyak" in SC.USA
Try it, you'll notice a very amazing fact.
Yes. With language death, the culture dies.
But then the activists cannot be care about the Eyak.
Their racist world view dictates that Tibetans are the spiritual
people. And tibetan culture cannot be contaminated by
anything Chinese. Of course, for those who still think in cold
war terms, supporting Tibet to weaken China is also a valid
goal by itself.

People dislike other ethnics present in their neighborhood. Just like
the Korean stores were attacked during the LA riots more than 10

Just out of curiocity. Do you think the Chinese ethnic in the USA
being oppressed by the White majority is more serious or less serious
than the Tibetans feeling the same in Tibet/China?

Do you really believe that all the protests all over world happen
spontaneiously? If not, then the events are either masterminded
in Tibet or masterminded outside of Tibet. Given the above two
choice, I choose the later.

Are there any Chinese legislature favoring the ethnic Tibetans?

You keep saying that. It's part of your diversion tactics.
Honest Charles wants us to believe that the tragedy of the Native
Americans means it's OK for Tibet to be brutalized. Hey Charles, why
don't you try a few crossposts to Native American groups? Remember the
last time you tried that and how they ridiculed you?
Honest Charles isn't very honest.
It is your world view that is racist. You show it every time you post.
You don't care about Native Americans or Iraqis and neither does
Charles. You just use their cause, and that is really despicable.
Human rights isn't about one particular group. Too bad you are too
shallow to understand that. Despite the thousands of words you write
(or mostly cut and paste, actually) you and Charles are nothing but
fools with keyboards sipping cappuccino while the real world passes
you by.
Cut and paste away, boys. You're not fooling anyone, though.
LT Lee seldom make sense anyway.
LT Lee cannot prove it. He just wants it to be true. He often gets

LT Lee doesn't respond meaningfully to questions like this.
Did you know that Tibetan monks are forced by the PRC government to
write essays denouncing the Dalai Lama? That would be like Catholics
being forced to write essays denouncing the Pope.
Won't happen.
