I've been in contact with a Rutger's Law student and have asked her to come in to give a presentation at the space discussing her research and work. My question to all of you is, what topics may be of interest to you?

Her main areas of study deal with internet policy, human rights, and the legal side of "hacktivism." She is a former EFF intern, and I'm excited to bring her in for a talk. We're looking at having the presentation during an April open house, free for anyone to attend. Non-members are encouraged to chime in on this thread, too!

Thoughts?

PJ:

This is definitely not a well formed question but what are the legal dangers to hacking products you own?

Will DMCA and the Record Companies and others prevent me from decoding and interoperating data protocols between appliances from different manufacturers?  If data on an appliance you own is encrypted can the manufacturer prevent you from decoding it and sharing the data formats.  I've seen stuff like this with Health and Medical Devices like the Emotiv EEG Headset and Fitbit.  What do you own about a product just by buying the physical product?  Can a manufacturer prevent you from sharing data on it?
