Is there a particular structure to be followed in writing a Hindi poem?

 

I am wanting to translate one of my poems into Hindi.  I wanted to know if this is just a straight forward translation, or are there certain rules that need to be followed in constructing a Hindi poem.

Sorry if this seems to be a idiotic question.

I am not a Hindi scholar, but a native speaker and user of Hindi. I have to offer some clarifications regarding कब (kab) and जब (jab).

I believe the difference should become clear to a beginner of Hindi in the initial stage of learning.

In English WHEN is used as and interrogative as well as a conjunctive adverb. The intonation of the speaker or the question mark in the written text along with the context make things clear.

But in Hindi we have two different words for these usage of WHEN. कब (kab) 
is used in a question regarding the time of an event etc. And जब (jab) is used for specifying the time by giving its description (conjunction). Note these:
कब जाओगे ? (When will you go? -- question.) जब तुम कहोगे (When(ever) you suggest. --an answer.) 

In fact this sort of difference you could not in respect of adverbs WHERE, HOW and pronouns WHO, WHOM, WHICH, WHOSE. (These are which come to my mind, there may be more.) In all these cases the क-word (starting with k) is used in questions and ज-word (starting with j) in other places. Be careful that the question could be in an indirect speech as well (as in: He asked me when I would return = उसने मुझसे पूछा कि मैं कब लौटूंगा = usane mujhase poochaa ki maiN kab lauTooNgaa.)

There could be tricky situations. For example, note this: मुझे नहीं मालूम कि वह कब आयेगा । (= mujhe nahiN maaloom ki wah kab aayegaa. = I do not know when he would return)
Here also we use 'kahaaN, and to understand this use one could realize that the person answering the question actually intends to say "I do not have an answer to this qestion: when he would return or wah kab lautegaa."

I hope this much serves some purpose.

Peggy,

At this stage of your learning curve, you would be better off
translating it into Hindi, and not caring about rules of poems. While
traditional poems have strict rules about rhyming, and the rules
depend upon what kind of a rhyming structure (छन्द) you are using, it
will be hard for you to follow those with a beginner's vocabulary.
However, there is also "modern" poetry that does not need to follow
any such rules.

non-rhyming poems, and also for some guidance about writing poetry.

I am just a sleeping member of the group. genarly I just read the e mails and try to find out what you guys are doing to learn hindi.
As a hindi teacher I want to advice you that instead of translating your poem in hindi, you may try to translate a hindi poem in english, and always choose a modern and simple poem.

Hereby I am sending one of my poems to you and will be very happy if you please translate it for me.


Ishwar ne manav ko Banaya ya nahi,
Yah vivad ka vishay ho sakta hai.
Par manav ne bina shaQ,
Ishwar ko banaya hai.
Kabhi mandir, Kabhi masjid,
To kabhi girje me bithaya hai.
