In the beginning.... on hi...@googlegroups.com, I heard only international students of Hindi exchanging grammar notes. It seems to have leading to a revolt in India now....Is this what Agehananda Bharati and other social scientists call the "pizza effect" in culture ? (see on Google). Rupert Snell's diatribe in Hindi (Navbharat Times) long years ago against the persisting mental colonisation in the 'Hindi-speaking' areas had led to similar shamefaced conversations in north India.

 

The blogger here is comparing India with Japan, but I must admit that the French too are totally flummoxed at the fact that no seminar-hopping "Indian intellectual" they have seen seems ever to have written anything in any Indian language ! Are they writing only for the "NIRs" Non-Indian Residents in India ? Or readers and organisers of seminars in North America and Europe ?

 

I was once hanging out in Delhi, at a book launch of The Glass Palace at the Maurya Sheraton (organized by Sanjeev, I think) where Amitabh Ghosh, in a very tortured, introspective tone, was asking the fatal question (which some Satyajit Ray fan in France or Japan might have asked him) "Why don't I write in Bengali too...? Why..?" and going on to answer it in the way his audience loved (English is an Indian language, etc). I was standing at the back with a Hindi student of mine Jean-Charles Allard, just arrived in India as first secretary, political, French embassy; Purushottam had just introduced us to Javed Akhtar (and Ravi Dayal, publisher, I think). One of the bilingual greats in our group (not me!) suddenly said out : "Abey bakwaas kiye ja raha hai...Sala seedhe seedhe kyon nahi kehta ki "agar main bangali me likh raha hota, to yahaan Sheraton me aapke beech, TV kaimeron ke saamne KYON baitha hota ??"

 

This led to multiple guffaws at the back, much to the distress of the sound engineers. Raw investigators may get back to the above-denounced bilingual writers poets and publishers to track down the commenting culprit (a lover of Satyajit Ray and Woody Allen)...

फिल्म स्टार काम तो हिन्दी फिल्मों में करेंगे, परंतु जब इन्टरव्यू देने की बारी आयेगी तो सब अंग्रेजी में इठलाने लगते हैं :)

अब इन फिल्म स्टारों को कौन समझाये की हम इनको टीवी/फिल्मों में अंग्रेजी में गिटपिट करने के लिए पैसे नही देते हैं :)

 

भारत ही एक मात्र ऐसा देश होगा जहाँ आप अंग्रेजी जाने बिना काँलेज की पढाई नही कर सकते. विदेश के लोग अगर सुनेंगे की भारत के लोग अपनी मात्र भाषा में पढाई नही कर सकते हैं, तो उन्हें जरूर हैरानी होगी.

 

पर आम जनता ऐसी नहीं है. भारत में 99% लोगों की अंग्रेजी एक दम टूटी फूटी है. लोग आपस में अपनी भाषा में ही बात करते हैं. यह तो सिर्फ उन 1% लोगों के कारण, जो की काले अंग्रेज हैं, भारत के 99% लोगों को अंग्रेजी "झेलनी" पङती है :)

 

कभी अभी मैं सोचता हूँ की अगर अंग्रेजी बोल के ही देश हाई-फाई होता है तो भारत जापान से इतना पीछे क्यों है ?? जापानी लोग "बदनाम" हैं अंग्रेजी बिल्कुल ही नही जानने के लिये. पर जापान सचमुच हाई-फाई है, और वहाँ अंग्रेजी एक विदेशी भाषा से ज्यादा कुछ भी नही है.

 

पर धीरे धीरे भारत भी सुधर रहा है. लोग अब जानने लगेगी हैं की जो अंग्रेजी वो बोलते हैं, वो ना तो अंग्रेजों को समझ में आती है और ना तो अमेरेकीयों को समझ में आती है. भारतीय काँल सेंटर के लोगों के उन लोगों की, जिनकी अंग्रेजी "बहुत अच्छी" है, का जब अमेरिकी लोग मजाक बनाने लगे तब इन लोगों को असलीयत पता चली :)

 

अमेरीकियों के अनुसार उनको भारतीय काल सेंटरों के "बनावटी अंग्रेजी" समझ में नही आती है :)

 

 हा हा हा ...मैं तो यह सुनकर बस हँस हँस कर लोट पोट हो रहा था.

 

मैं खुद DPS( एक अंग्रेजी स्कूल ) से पढ़ के निकला हूँ, पर अपनी भाषा के प्रती मेरा लगाव कभी खत्म नही हुआ. और मैं उम्मीद करता हूँ की इस मेलिंग लिस्ट में जितने लोग हैं, उन्हे भी अपने देश, अपनी भाषा से प्यार है :)

देखिये, मुझे नही मालूम की यह मेलिंग लिस्ट किस काम के लिये है. अगर यह मेलिंग लिस्ट सिर्फ विदेशी छात्रों के लिये है, या फिर किसी सीरीयस काम के लिये है, तो मुझे पिछ्ले पोस्ट के लिये माफ करियेगा. शायद मेरा पिछ्ला पोस्ट इस लिस्ट के लायक नही था, क्यों की भाई मुझे तो गप्प हांकने के अलावा कुछ नहीं आता :)

मेरे को लगता है की ये पिज्जा नहीं, "पराठा" अफेक्ट है :) भारत को आजाद हुए 50 से भी अधिक साल हो चुके हैं, और अब वो समय बीत चुका है की अगर कोइ भारत में अंग्रेजी में बकवास करे तो सामने वाला सुनता रहेगा :)

 

अशिकांश फ्रांसीसी लोगों को अपनी भाषा में टाइप करने में परेशानी नही होती क्यों की उनके पास बहुत पहले से मिनीटेल है. फ्रांसीसी लोगों को मिनीटेल में अपनी भाषा में लिखने की आदत हो चुकी है. इसिलिये इंटरनेट पर भी आपको बहुत सारे फ्रांसीसी वेब पेज पढने को मिलेगा.

पर भारतीयों के लिये कम्प्यूटर एक पहेली के सामान है. देखिये, किताब या टीवी या मोबाइल के मामले मे तो सब ठीक है, क्यों किताब/ टीवी के इनके लिये हिन्दी में बहुत सारा माल है, और मोबाइल में भी हिन्दी में बात हो सकती है. पर इंटरनेट की तो बात ही अलग है .कम्प्यूटर / इंटेरनेट हिन्दी भाषियों के लियी बहुत सी समस्याएं पैदा कर देती है. 

 

चलिये इतिहास देखते हैं :

MS-DOS,windows 3.x, windows 95/98/ME वे आँपरेटिंग सिस्टम हैं जो की यूनीकोड सपोर्ट नही करते हैं. इनमें किसी भी प्रकार की encoding भारतीय भाषा के लिये उपलब्ध नही था. अब मरते ना क्या करते, सब को अंग्रेजी में काम करना पङता था. कुछ जोशीले लोग हिन्दी फान्ट का भी उपयोग करते थे, पर फांट का प्रयोग करना बहुत ही सरदर्द वाला काम था.

 

और वेब पेज... बस पूछीये मत की क्या-क्या करम करने पङते थे, हिन्दी में पेज बनने के लिये. हिन्दी फांट एम्बेड करो, या तो फिर हर पेज के लिये अलग फांट इंस्टाल करो ...बाप-रे-बाप !

 

चैट रूम मैं भी आप को इस प्रकार के सन्देश देखने को मिलेंगे : "kyaa ho rahaa hai?". ऐसा इसलिये, क्यों की लोगों के पास हिन्दी में लिखने का कोइ तरीका ही नही था.

 

तो, वो "extra 8 bits" हिन्दी भाषियों के लिये बहुत महंगा पङे . या फिर कहें की यूरोपिय भाषाओं को छोङ कर सब भाषाओं को भारी पङा !

 

पर शुक्र है की नए  OS यूनीकोड सपोर्ट करते हैं. हिन्दी में लिखने के लिये अब  Hindi IME जैसे टूल अब उपलब्ध हैं. अब देखिये ना, इस ई.मेल को भी मैने Hindi IME के सहारे लिखा है. अगर Hindi IME नहीं होता तो आठ जन्म तक मैं इतना लम्बा ई.मेल नहीं लिख पाता :)

भैया, INSCRIPT की.बोर्ड रटना, की.बोर्ड पर हिन्दी स्टिकर लगाना, और फिर टाइप करना... मेरे से तो नही होता :) पर Hindi IME से सारी परेशानी समाप्त :)

 

तो भाई साहाब, ये तो बस शुरुआत है ... कुछ दिनों में देखियेगा कैसे हिन्दी में बेज पेजों की संख्या बढेगी.. बस लोगों को पता तो चले की कम्प्यूटर में हिन्दी में भी काम किया जा सकता है ;)

 

अधिकांश लोगों को जब मैने बताया की हिन्दी में लिखना कितना आसान है, तो उन्हे यकीन नही हुआ. हाल ये है की मेरी कम्पनी के इंट्रानेट के फोरम में अब अधिकांश लोग हिन्दी में पोस्ट करते हैं :)

 

लिस्ट माँडरेटर :  क्या हिन्दी मेलिंग लिस्ट में अंग्रेजी में पोस्ट करना ठीक है ? ये सब पूछ्ना तो ठीक है की "I am unable to read your message. Can you tell me what kind of font are you using?", पर पूरे के पूरे सन्देश अंग्रेजी में भेजना ठीक है की नही ?

Mujhé Hindi mé type karna nahi aata, Hindi likhné ké liyé lekhni aur syahi hi zyada pasand karta hun. Apné chhatron sé aamné-saamné hi mulaaqaat hoti hai, isliyé yaa to prakaashit-mudrit paath hoté hain, ya apni lekhni (filmé bhi, TV-radio aadi sé recording bhi...) - inhi sab sé, aur baatcheet ké zariyé khoob kaam chal raha hai.

 

Mainé dvibhashiya (ya bahubhashiya) sanskriti ka gungaan kiya tha, mai kisi ek bhasha ya desh ka bhakt banné se bachna chaahunga. Mai angrezi, fransisi, hindi, marathi aur panjabi samajhta hun aur ye sabhi bhashaen mujhé ek-si pasand hain. Meré mata-pita aur sagi behen kuch aisi bhi bhashaen bhi bolté hain jo main bilkul nahin samajhta - farsi, rusi, konkani, tamil aur german ! Ham kisi desh ke deshbhakt nahin.

 

Khari boli ké liyé bhi mujhé na to nagari lipi se khaas 'saanskritik' lagaav hai aur na nastaleeq sé. Mere liyé Hindi aur Urdu ek hain, urdu sha'iri sé balki zyaada lagaav hai aur Hindi ké kaviyon sé darta hun. Lipi ké maamlé mé mai Balraj Sahni sé sahmat hun. BS né romanized Hindi ki vakaalat kyon ki, ispar vichaar kiya ja sakta hai. Shaayad isliyé ki vé panjabi thé aur panjabi ya to nastaleeq mé likhi jaati hai (keval Pakistan mé hi nahin, Hindustan mé bhi) ya gurmukhi mé. Aisé jhanjhaton sé bachné ké liyé hi shaayad Balraj Sahni né sujhaav diya ki sabhi bhaartiya bhaashaen roman lipi mé likhi jaaen ! Ambedkar ka bhi yahi vichaar tha.

 

Jab yeh baat mainé apné chhaatron sé kahi ki shaayad, e-mail aadi ki hi vajah sé, aané vaali peedhi bhaartiya bhaashaon ko roman lipi mé likhné ki aadat daal dé, to inhoné kaha - yeh to ham log kab sé karté aa rahé hain ! Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi aadi vibhinna bhaashaon mein vé romanized e-mail likhté hain, aur inhé hamaari bhavishya-vaaniyon ki na zaroorat hai, na chinta.

  बचपन में मैंने एक कहानी पढ़ी थी --- "तात्कालिक प्रमाण" । कहानी कुछ इस प्रकार है ---
  एक मुल्ला ने किसी किताब में पढ़ा कि वह आदमी मूर्ख होता है जिसका सिर छोटा होता है और दाढ़ी लम्बी । दुर्भाग्य से उसका सिर छोटा था और दाढ़ी लम्बी । सिर को तो बड़ा नहीं बनाया जा सकता था, किन्तु दाढ़ी छोटी की जा सकती थी । मुल्ला ने अपनी दाढ़ी को ठुड्डी के पास अपने दाहिने हाथ से पकड़कर एक जलते हुए चिराग के सामने रख दिया । दाढ़ी छुन्न से जलती हुई ठुड्डी के पास तक पहुँच गई और हाथ जलने लगा जिसके कारण उसने हाथ अलग कर लिया और उसकी पूरी दाढ़ी जलकर खाक हो गई ।  किताब में जो कुछ लिखा था, मुल्ला उसी का एक उदाहरण बन गया ।

MS-DOS,windows 3.x, windows 95/98/ME वे आँपरेटिंग सिस्टम हैं जो की यूनीकोड सपोर्ट नही करते हैं. इनमें किसी भी प्रकार की encoding भारतीय भाषा के लिये उपलब्ध नही था. अब मरते ना क्या करते, सब को अंग्रेजी में काम करना पङता था. कुछ जोशीले लोग हिन्दी फान्ट का भी उपयोग करते थे, पर फांट का प्रयोग करना बहुत ही सरदर्द वाला काम था.

 

और वेब पेज... बस पूछीये मत की क्या-क्या करम करने पङते थे, हिन्दी में पेज बनने के लिये. हिन्दी फांट एम्बेड करो, या तो फिर हर पेज के लिये अलग फांट इंस्टाल करो ...बाप-रे-बाप !

 

चैट रूम मैं भी आप को इस प्रकार के सन्देश देखने को मिलेंगे : "kyaa ho rahaa hai?". ऐसा इसलिये, क्यों की लोगों के पास हिन्दी में लिखने का कोइ तरीका ही नही था.

 

तो, वो "extra 8 bits" हिन्दी भाषियों के लिये बहुत महंगा पङे . या फिर कहें की यूरोपिय भाषाओं को छोङ कर सब भाषाओं को भारी पङा !

 

पर शुक्र है की नए  OS यूनीकोड सपोर्ट करते हैं. हिन्दी में लिखने के लिये अब  Hindi IME जैसे टूल अब उपलब्ध हैं. अब देखिये ना, इस ई.मेल को भी मैने Hindi IME के सहारे लिखा है. अगर Hindi IME नहीं होता तो आठ जन्म तक मैं इतना लम्बा ई.मेल नहीं लिख पाता :)

भैया, INSCRIPT की.बोर्ड रटना, की.बोर्ड पर हिन्दी स्टिकर लगाना, और फिर टाइप करना... मेरे से तो नही होता :) पर Hindi IME से सारी परेशानी समाप्त :)

 

तो भाई साहाब, ये तो बस शुरुआत है ... कुछ दिनों में देखियेगा कैसे हिन्दी में बेज पेजों की संख्या बढेगी.. बस लोगों को पता तो चले की कम्प्यूटर में हिन्दी में भी काम किया जा सकता है ;)

 

अधिकांश लोगों को जब मैने बताया की हिन्दी में लिखना कितना आसान है, तो उन्हे यकीन नही हुआ. हाल ये है की मेरी कम्पनी के इंट्रानेट के फोरम में अब अधिकांश लोग हिन्दी में पोस्ट करते हैं :)

 

लिस्ट माँडरेटर :  क्या हिन्दी मेलिंग लिस्ट में अंग्रेजी में पोस्ट करना ठीक है ? ये सब पूछ्ना तो ठीक है की "I am unable to read your message. Can you tell me what kind of font are you using?", पर पूरे के पूरे सन्देश अंग्रेजी में भेजना ठीक है की नही ?

Why..?" and going on to answer it in the way his audience loved (English is an Indian language, etc). I was standing at the back with a Hindi student of mine Jean-Charles Allard, just arrived in India as first secretary, political, French embassy; Purushottam had just introduced us to Javed Akhtar (and Ravi Dayal, publisher, I think). One of the bilingual greats in our group (not me!) suddenly said out : "Abey bakwaas kiye ja raha hai...Sala seedhe seedhe kyon nahi kehta ki "agar main bangali me likh raha hota, to yahaan Sheraton me aapke beech, TV kaimeron ke saamne KYON baitha hota ??"

 

This led to multiple guffaws at the back, much to the distress of the sound engineers. Raw investigators may get back to the above-denounced bilingual writers poets and publishers to track down the commenting culprit (a lover of Satyajit Ray and Woody Allen)...

�¤­ारत ही एक मात्र ऐसा देश होगा जहाँ आप अंग्रेजी जाने बिना काँलेज की पढाई नही कर सकते. विदेश के लोग अगर सुनेंगे की �¤­ारत के लोग अपनी मात्र �¤­ाषा में पढाई नही कर सकते हैं, तो उन्हें जरूर हैरानी होगी.

 

पर आम जनता ऐसी नहीं है. �¤­ारत में 99% लोगों की अंग्रेजी एक दम टूटी फूटी है. लोग आपस में अपनी �¤­ाषा में ही बात करते हैं. यह तो सिर्फ उन 1% लोगों के कारण, जो की काले अंग्रेज हैं, �¤­ारत के 99% लोगों को अंग्रेजी "झेलनी" पङती है :)

 

क�¤­ी अ�¤­ी मैं सोचता हूँ की अगर अंग्रेजी बोल के ही देश हाई-फाई होता है तो �¤­ारत जापान से इतना पीछे क्यों है ?? जापानी लोग "बदनाम" हैं अंग्रेजी बिल्कुल ही नही जानने के लिये. पर जापान सचमुच हाई-फाई है, और वहाँ अंग्रेजी एक विदेशी �¤­ाषा से ज्यादा कुछ �¤­ी नही है.

 

पर धीरे धीरे �¤­ारत �¤­ी सुधर रहा है. लोग अब जानने लगेगी हैं की जो अंग्रेजी वो बोलते हैं, वो ना तो अंग्रेजों को समझ में आती है और ना तो अमेरेकीयों को समझ में आती है. �¤­ारतीय काँल सेंटर के लोगों के उन लोगों की, जिनकी अंग्रेजी "बहुत अच्छी" है, का जब अमेरिकी लोग मजाक बनाने लगे तब इन लोगों को असलीयत पता चली :)

 

अमेरीकियों के अनुसार उनको �¤­ारतीय काल सेंटरों के "बनावटी अंग्रेजी" समझ में नही आती है :)

 

 हा हा हा ...मैं तो यह सुनकर बस हँस हँस कर लोट पोट हो रहा था.

 

मैं खुद DPS( एक अंग्रेजी स्कूल ) से पढ़ के निकला हूँ, पर अपनी �¤­ाषा के प्रती मेरा लगाव क�¤­ी खत्म नही हुआ. और मैं उम्मीद करता हूँ की इस मेलिंग लिस्ट में जितने लोग हैं, उन्हे �¤­ी अपने देश, अपनी �¤­ाषा से प्यार है :)

  बचपन में मैंने एक कहानी पढ़ी थी --- "तात्कालिक प्रमाण" । कहानी कुछ इस प्रकार है ---
  एक मुल्ला ने किसी किताब में पढ़ा कि वह आदमी मूर्ख होता है जिसका सिर छोटा होता है और दाढ़ी लम्बी । दुर्भाग्य से उसका सिर छोटा था और दाढ़ी लम्बी । सिर को तो बड़ा नहीं बनाया जा सकता था, किन्तु दाढ़ी छोटी की जा सकती थी । मुल्ला ने अपनी दाढ़ी को ठुड्डी के पास अपने दाहिने हाथ से पकड़कर एक जलते हुए चिराग के सामने रख दिया । दाढ़ी छुन्न से जलती हुई ठुड्डी के पास तक पहुँच गई और हाथ जलने लगा जिसके कारण उसने हाथ अलग कर लिया और उसकी पूरी दाढ़ी जलकर खाक हो गई ।  किताब में जो कुछ लिखा था, मुल्ला उसी का एक उदाहरण बन गया ।

मेरे को लगता है की ये पिजॠजा नहीं, "पराठा" अफेकॠट है :) à¤­à¤¾à¤°à¤¤ को आजाद हॠठ50 से भी अधिक साल हो चॠके हैं, और अब वो समय बीत चॠका है की अगर कोइ भारत में अंगॠरेजी में बकवास करे तो सामने वाला सॠनता रहेगा :)

 

अशिकांश à¤«à¥ रांसीसी लोगों को अपनी भाषा में टाइप करने में परेशानी नही होती कॠयों की उनके पास बहॠत पहले से मिनीटेल à¤¹à¥ˆ. फॠरांसीसी à¤²à¥‹à¤—ों को मिनीटेल में अपनी भाषा में लिखने की आदत हो चॠकी है. इसिलिये इंटरनेट पर भी आपको बहॠत सारे फॠरांसीसी वेब पेज पढने को मिलेगा.

 

पर भारतीयों के लिये कमॠपॠयूटर ठक पहेली के सामान है. देखिये, किताब या टीवी या मोबाइल के मामले मे तो सब ठीक है, कॠयों à¤•à¤¿à¤¤à¤¾à¤¬/ टीवी के इनके लिये हिनॠदी में बहॠत सारा माल है, और मोबाइल में भी हिनॠदी में बात हो सकती है. पर इंटरनेट की तो बात ही अलग है .कमॠपॠयूटर / इंटेरनेट हिनॠदी भाषियों के लियी बहॠत सी à¤¸à¤®à¤¸à¥ याठं पैदा कर देती है.

In the beginning.... on hi...@googlegroups.com, I heard only international students of Hindi exchanging grammar notes. It seems to have leading to a revolt in India now....Is this what Agehananda Bharati and other social scientists call the "pizza effect" in culture ? (see on Google). Rupert Snell's diatribe in Hindi (Navbharat Times) long years ago against the persisting mental colonisation in the 'Hindi-speaking' areas had led to similar shamefaced conversations in north India.

 

The blogger here is comparing India with Japan, but I must admit that the French too are totally flummoxed at the fact that no seminar-hopping "Indian intellectual" they have seen seems ever to have written anything in any Indian language ! Are they writing only for the "NIRs" Non-Indian Residents in India ? Or readers and organisers of seminars in North America and Europe ?

 

I was once hanging out in Delhi, at a book launch of The Glass Palace at the Maurya Sheraton (organized by Sanjeev, I think) where Amitabh Ghosh, in a very tortured, introspective tone, was asking the fatal question (which some Satyajit Ray fan in France or Japan might have asked him) "Why don't I write in Bengali too...? Why..?" and going on to answer it in the way his audience loved (English is an Indian language, etc). I was standing at the back with a Hindi student of mine Jean-Charles Allard, just arrived in India as first secretary, political, French embassy; Purushottam had just introduced us to Javed Akhtar (and Ravi Dayal, publisher, I think). One of the bilingual greats in our group (not me!) suddenly said out : "Abey bakwaas kiye ja raha hai...Sala seedhe seedhe kyon nahi kehta ki "agar main bangali me likh raha hota, to yahaan Sheraton me aapke beech, TV kaimeron ke saamne KYON baitha hota ??"

 

This led to multiple guffaws at the back, much to the distress of the sound engineers. Raw investigators may get back to the above-denounced bilingual writers poets and publishers to track down the commenting culprit (a lover of Satyajit Ray and Woody Allen)...

पर आम जनता ठसी नहीं है. भारत में 99% लोगों की अंगॠरेजी ठक दम टूटी फूटी है. लोग आपस में अपनी भाषा में ही बात करते हैं. यह तो सिरॠफ उन 1% लोगों के कारण, जो की काले अंगॠरेज हैं, भारत के 99% लोगों को अंगॠरेजी "ठेलनी" पङती है :)

 

कभी अभी मैं सोचता हूठकी अगर अंगॠरेजी बोल के ही देश हाई-फाई होता है तो भारत जापान से इतना पीछे कॠयों है ?? जापानी लोग "बदनाम" हैं अंगॠरेजी बिलॠकॠल ही नही जानने के लिये. पर जापान सचमॠच हाई-फाई है, और वहाठअंगॠरेजी ठक विदेशी भाषा से जॠयादा कॠछ भी नही है.

 

पर धीरे धीरे भारत भी सॠधर रहा है. लोग अब जानने लगेगी हैं की जो अंगॠरेजी वो बोलते हैं, à

मेरे को लगता है की ये पिज्जा नहीं, "परादamp;nbsp;ा" अफेक्ट है :) दamp;shy;ारत को आजाद हुए 50 से दamp;shy;ी अधिक साल हो चुके हैं, और अब वो समय बीत चुका है की अगर कोइ दamp;shy;ारत में अंग्रेजी में बकवास करे तो सामने वाला सुनता रहेगा :)

 

अशिकांश फ्रांसीसी लोगों को अपनी दamp;shy;ाषा में टाइप करने में परेशानी नही होती क्यों की उनके पास बहुत पहले से मिनीटेल है. फ्रांसीसी लोगों को मिनीटेल में अपनी दamp;shy;ाषा में लिखने की आदत हो चुकी है. इसिलिये इंटरनेट पर दamp;shy;ी आपको बहुत सारे फ्रांसीसी वेब पेज पढने को मिलेगा.

 

पर दamp;shy;ारतीयों के लिये कम्प्यूटर एक पहेली के सामान है. देखिये, किताब या टीवी या मोबाइल के मामले मे तो सब दamp;nbsp;ीक है, क्यों किताब/ टीवी के इनके लिये हिन्दी में बहुत सारा माल है, और मोबाइल में दamp;shy;ी हिन्दी में बात हो सकती है. पर इंटरनेट की तो बात ही अलग है .कम्प्यूटर / इंटेरनेट हिन्दी दamp;shy;ाषियों के लियी बहुत सी समस्याएं पैदा कर देती है. 

 

चलिये इतिहास देखते हैं :

 

MS-DOS,windows 3.x, windows 95/98/ME वे आँपरेटिंग सिस्टम हैं जो की यूनीकोड सपोर्ट नही करते हैं. इनमें किसी दamp;shy;ी प्रकार की encoding दamp;shy;ारतीय दamp;shy;ाषा के लिये उपलब्ध नही था. अब मरते ना क्या करते, सब को अंग्रेजी में काम करना पङता था. कुछ जोशीले लोग हिन्दी फान्ट का दamp;shy;ी उपयोग करते थे, पर फांट का प्रयोग करना बहुत ही सरदर्द वाला काम था.

 

और वेब पेज... बस पूछीये मत की क्या-क्या करम करने पङते थे, हिन्दी में पेज बनने के लिये. हिन्दी फांट एम्बेड करो, या तो फिर हर पेज के लिये अलग फांट इंस्टाल करो ...बाप-रे-बाप !

 

चैट रूम मैं दamp;shy;ी आप को इस प्रकार के सन्देश देखने को मिलेंगे : "kyaa ho rahaa hai?". ऐसा इसलिये, क्यों की लोगों के पास हिन्दी में लिखने का कोइ तरीका ही नही था.

 

तो, वो "extra 8 bits" हिन्दी दamp;shy;ाषियों के लिये बहुत महंगा पङे . या फिर कहें की यूरोपिय दamp;shy;ाषाओं को छोङ कर सब दamp;shy;ाषाओं को दamp;shy;ारी पङा !

 

पर शुक्र है की नए  OS यूनीकोड सपोर्ट करते हैं. हिन्दी में लिखने के लिये अब  Hindi IME जैसे टूल अब उपलब्ध हैं. अब देखिये ना, इस ई.मेल को दamp;shy;ी मैने Hindi IME के सहारे लिखा है. अगर Hindi IME नहीं होता तो आदamp;nbsp; जन्म तक मैं इतना लम्बा ई.मेल नहीं लिख पाता :)

दamp;shy;ैया, INSCRIPT की.बोर्ड रटना, की.बोर्ड पर हिन्दी स्टिकर लगाना, और फिर टाइप करना... मेरे से तो नही होता :) पर Hindi IME से सारी परेशानी समाप्त :)

 

तो दamp;shy;ाई साहाब, ये तो बस शुरुआत है ... कुछ दिनों में देखियेगा कैसे हिन्दी में बेज पेजों की संख्या बढेगी.. बस लोगों को पता तो चले की कम्प्यूटर में हिन्दी में दamp;shy;ी काम किया जा सकता है ;)

बिलकुल नहीं ! लेकिन नई पीढ़ी कुछ अलग है।  सबसे अधिक हैरानी मुझे यह देखकर हुई कि आजकल अधिकतर घरों में माता-पिता और यहां तक कि दादा-दादी को  भी "तू" से ही सम्बोधित किया जाता है!

बलराज जी का ज़माना और था, अब ये उतना कठिन नहीं है । फ़ोनेटिक IME द्वारा उर्दू और पंजाबी को भी फ़ारसी या गुरूमुखी में रोमन जैसी आसानी से लिखा जा सकता है।
मुझे याद है,  ५-६ साल पहले जब मैं फ़्रांस आया था तो एक फ़्रांसीसी सज्जन ने मुझसे कहा था, "कौन ई-मेल के झंझटमें पड़े, एक कागज़ पर पैन से लिखो और फ़ैक्स कर दो", आज यह पढ़कर चाहे हंसी आए लेकिन उस समय शायद एक कंप्यूटर न जानने वाले के लिए उतना ही कठिन था जितना १-२ साल तक भारतीय भाषाओं में टाइप करना।
लिपि का उद्देश्य केवल अर्थ समझाना ही होता तो सारी दुनिया में एक ही लिपि हो सकती थी, लेकिन शब्दों के भावों के साथ-साथ लिपि की सुंदरता का अपना महत्व है।

हूँ, हलचल देख कर काफी अच्छा
लगा। कुछ बातें कहना
चाहूँगा

१) अक्षय बकाया जी का यहाँ
नाम देख कर अच्छा लगा। यदि
मेरी सूचना सही है तो यह नाम
कश्मीरियों में ही पाया
जाता है, और यदि वे "ताज़े"
कश्मीरी हैं तो हिन्दी में
रुचि रखने वाले गिने चुने
कश्मीरियों में से हैं।

हिन्दी विभाग में काम करते

हैं तो हिन्दी के विद्वान ही
होंगे, और अपना नाम हिन्दी
में लिखने से जो उच्चारण की
अनिश्चितता समाप्‍त होती
है, उस से भी अनभिज्ञ नहीं
होंगे।

२) पिछले वार्तालाप को देख
कर मुझे नहीं लगा कि अक्षय
का सन्देश हिमाँशु के
सन्देश के उत्तर में था।
अक्षय को किसी ब्लॉगर से
शिकायत है जो भारत की जापान
से तुलना कर रहा है, जो
हिमांशु ने नहीं की थी। (या
शायद मैं कुछ ग़लत समझ रहा
हूँ।)

३) हिमांशु ब्लॉगर नहीं हैं,
और अधिकतर ब्लॉगों को बकवास
समझते हैं। मैं तो कहता हूँ
कि ब्लॉग व्यक्‍तिगत
विचारधारा का एक और माध्यम
है, जिसे पढ़ना है पढ़े जिसे
लिखना है लिखे। गुणवत्ता
वहाँ भी उतनी ही कम-ज़्यादा
है जितनी यहाँ या कहीं और।
जैसे आप "कि" और "की" में अन्तर
नहीं करते, वैसे ही लोग वहाँ
भी हैं और हर जगह हैं। यही
काफी है कि इंटरनेट पर
हिन्दी लिखने-पढ़ने वालों
की संख्या दिनों-दिन बढ़ती
जा रही है। वैसे आप के उठाए
मुद्दे (भारत प्रेम-अप्रेम)
पर ब्लॉग पर बहुत अच्छी
चर्चा हो जाती। कोशिश कर के
देखें।

४) जो अगस्त्य का सन्देश
ऍनकोडिंग बदलने पर भी नहीं
पढ़ा जा रहा, उसका इलाज है।
पहली बात तो यह कि गूगल
ग्रुप्स पर सन्देश भेजने का
बेहतर तरीका है कि जीमेल से
मेल भेजी जाए, या फिर गूगल
ग्रुप्स की साइट पर जा कर
सन्देश लिखा जाए। जो मेल
बिगड़ गई है, उसे ठीक करने के
लिए यहाँ जाएँ

Koi zabardasi naheen, kyonki bahut sé log keval maukhik Hindi (=Urdu) seekhna chaahté hain (film dekhné/gaané samajhné /baatcheet karné ké liyé), likhna parhna nahin !

 

Hindi group par kuchh logon né mujhé samjhané ki koshish ki hai ki nagari mé type karna koi mushkil nahin, magar abhi tak main bilkul "motivate" nahin ho pa raha hoon ! Roman hi zyaada aasaan hai, aur mujhé lagta hai ki yahi Hindi-Urdu ka antar-rashtriya bhavishya hai !  Lagbhag 150 - 200 saal sé Europe aur Amrika ké vidvaan Ved aur Upanishad ko roman mé hi likhté aayé hain. Kyon ?  Antar-rashtriya suvidha aur arth ko lekar samvaad ké liyé. Yahaan mainé jo likha hai vo har Pakistani parh sakta hai, magar neeché jo nagari hai vo uské liyé smokescreen hi hai ! Yahi ek vajah méré liyé kaafi hai, south asia mé RUHI script (aur zabaan!) ki vakaalat karné ké liyé !

यह है कि यह "इन्साँ" और

इसलिए हैरान होते हैं और
अपनी भाषा की मूल लिपि को
"गोल-गोल वाली रस्मुल-ख़त"
इसलिए कहते हैं, क्योंकि
inclusiveness का concept उन के लिए पराया
है -- भारतीय छात्रों को ऐसा
नहीं लगेगा।

कंप्यूटर पर देवनागरी के
प्रयोग में हाल में हुई
सरलता ने इस लिपि की अवनति

        न जाने अक्षय बकाया जी हिन्दी के शिक्षक होते हुए भी क्यों रोमन हिन्दी के पक्ष में इतनी सारी बातें करते हैं ।  रोमन में लिखी उनकी हिन्दी बिलकुल हास्यास्पद है । यह बात अलग है कि उनकी रोमन हिन्दी हम किसी तरह पढ़ लेते हैं क्योंकि हम हिन्दी जानते हैं ।

 

        देवनागरी लिपि रोमन की तरह अवैज्ञानिक नहीं है । कुछ दिनों के प्रयास से ही एक पाश्चात्य व्यक्ति भी आसानी से देवनागरी हिन्दी आसानी से पढ़ लेगा, चाहे उसे कई अनजान या अपरिचित शब्दों से ही पाला क्यों न पड़े । रोमन या अरबी-फ़ारसी लिपि  में ऐसा करना संभव नहीं । यदि पाश्चात्य लोग हिन्दी या संस्कृत भाषा रोमन लिपि की सहायता से सीखते भी हैं तो उन्हें रोमन लिपि को विशेष संकेतों से परिवर्द्धित करना पड़ता है ।

 

        किसी चर्चा समूह में सामान्य अंग्रेज़ी कुंजी-पटल (कीबोर्ड ) पर उपलब्ध रोमन एवं अन्य संकेतों का उपयोग भी किया जाता है (जैसे indo...@yahoogroups.com), किन्तु  अक्षय बकाया जी की तरह हिन्दी जैसी भाषा के लिए मनमाने ढंग से रोमन लिपि का प्रयोग इस भाषा की टाँग तोड़ने वाला सिद्ध होगा ।

What script is this below ? (Coming from Agastya Kohli's and Narayan Prasad's computer ?). 

It isn't legible on my screen. I'm using a PC with Windows, Word, Outlook Express etc.  -  the commonest tools.

I hope this question of mine is legible on all computer screens in the world.

I shall seriously consider all arguments against the use of Ruhi, long used in the Hindi cinema and music world (billboards, CD albums), and by all sanskritists, by the Indian armed forces, etc. (all Indian soldiers understand a signboard saying "Khatraa !! Aagé Minefield Hai", why should the Madras Regiment die for devanagari..?).

I advocate the use of Ruhi in a parallel way, beyond national, religious, cultural limits. For the moment I feel have not found convincing arguments. I urge you all to consider all of mine too. I shall respond (always politely) later. Do bear with me.

साथ phonetic script की बात करना शायद
और भी मुश्किल है। पर हमें
एक phonetic script का वरदान विरासत

That is Nagari in Unicode (as opposed to Roman in ASCII).

enabling your system so that you can read the mails, you can simply
ask. If you don't WANT to read them, that's your choice.

"RUHI" or the transliteration scheme that you are using is NOT used by
Hindi cinema and music billboards, by ALL sanskritist, or by the Indian
armed forces. Hindi cinema/music industry along with all the other
media do not use ANY one standard scheme when they transcribe the names
in Roman. "Akshay Bakaya" could be written as "Axay Baaqaya" and "Vinay
Jain" as "Vinai Zen". There's simply no single scheme.

For the Internet usage, your point probably would have made some sense
to some people a few years ago. But you are way too late (at least in
the sense of computer/Internet time). It is a non-issue now. The
limitation was of the technology, not the script. And the gap is
closing fast. Almost all important computer systems in the world now
support Unicode, which means they have means to read and write not only
Nagari, but most popular scripting systems of the world. And this
support is increasing every day.

I would advise you to stop spreading this notion among your students
that in future Hindi will be written in some form of Roman instead of
in Nagari. This is merely your opinion and that too not based on facts.
And you are using this false premise to devise conclusions that one
should write Indian languages in Roman. The attitude is not too
different from those who think that everyone should speak/use only
English, because that's what future looks like. I wonder why you are
even teaching Hindi and why your students are even learning the
language.

I don't know about the future, but the reality of today is that you are
in a minority of one. For every one person you find who wants to read
and write Hindi in Roman, you will find about a million (most likely
more) who want to do so in Nagari. Of course your students in France
would love to learn Hindi in Roman script, but then a Hindi using
person in Delhi or Patana or Jaipur learning French would love if he
can learn French in Nagari too.

इस का अर्थ यह कि आप मेरा संदेश ठीक से पढ़ पाए?

 

नारायण जी का संदेश, और मेरी अपनी मेल वापिस मेरे पास ठीक ही आई थी। इस लिए मुझे लगा कि इस बार मेरा संदेश गूगल की कठिन युनिकोड परीक्षा भी पास कर गया… किन्तु लगता है कि अक्षय जी तक या तो ठीक से नहीं पहुँचा, या उन के कम्प्यूटर को युनिकोड पढ़ना नहीं आता।

Dear all, please do keep the tark-vitark coming in, but let us not get personally irritated at each other ! Till now, very surprisingly, I have read here only arguments that I am already familiar with. When my call for arguments against roman script (as a common script for Khari Boli, not a radical substitute for existing nastaleeq and nagari) has drawn in some more response, I will respond to all this seriously, and respectfully. There is no hurry.

 

Today I  read :

 

"I would advise you to stop spreading this notion among your students",

"I wonder why you are even teaching Hindi and why your students are even learning the language".

etc.... (from the list moderator?)

These seem to me a sign of irritation. If you wish me to stop expressing a view simply because I am in a minority (I have not even really begun!) you could of course block me off from this list (the debate can continue elsewhere in the wide world) but I doubt that this will be proof that the other point of view is the only correct one.

I have written my earlier mail in capacity of a simple member of the
group. It has nothing to do with my moderatorship of the group. That is
to say, you are not unwelcome here just because your views are
different than mine.

Let me assure you that there is no irritation involved from my part in
any way. I am presenting my view as you are yours and have nothing
personal against you. All my remarks are oriented towards the arguments
that you have made. However, if you have felt any offense in them, I
apologize. I meant none. Even though I do not agree with your views, I
have no problems your putting forth them here, as long as the
conversation remains civil. I hope you have noticed that you have
neither been banned nor moderated.

How is that very suprising? The case for nagari is obvious and well
known, so you are likely to hear the same facts time and again - until
you put forth a counter-argument. The only thing that has changed
lately is the ease with which devanagari can be written on computers.

Well, on an informal level, it already is being used by some people as
a parallel script, so your target is already met. What do you mean by
"not a radical substitute"? If your target is that Premchand be taught
in schools using Roman script, that IS radical.

That is a relief because I was thinking you are ignoring our arguments.
Well, nobody is in a hurry. A few points, though, whenever you decide
to take them up.

1) "What was that ? Yeh kya lipi thi ? Ai kee siga ? Hé kai aahé ?
Was ist das ?..."
Look at any sentence that you write in your so called RUHI. There is no
consistency. यह has at times been spelt as "yeh" and at other times
as "yé". "siga" can be spelt as "seega", "seegaa", "siigaa", etc. Same
goes for "kya", "thi", "ai", etc. Is the lack of consistency an
advantage too?

2) At most places you have spelt में as mé? Where did the
nasalisation go?

3) Do you advocate Roman as the script for khari boli only or all
Indian languages? What about Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew,
Arabic, Persian, and so on, which use different scripts? I am sure the
same arguments apply there too.

4) In your she'r "baskih dushvaar..", where did the "h" in "baskih"
come from? Obviously from the "he" of nastaleeq. Why do we have to
embrace this "h" when we pronounce it as "बस कि"? There will be
similar issues depending upon whether the primary text is in nastaleeq
or devanagari. Nastaleeq is also not the right script for khari boli --
it adds unnecessary consonansts, and skips necessary vowels, for
example. Why can we not keep and teach nagari script to students? Adult
students can learn the script in a week or less.

In Paris, all that your students may be hearing about Hindi is what you
tell them, so teaching them something that is not a proven or widely
accepted fact may actually be unfair to them as well as to the
language, so I would also make the same request. Expressing your view
here or in India is one thing, but teaching it to unsuspecting students
is entirely another.

Could you please translate it for the benefit for those not speaking
Sanskrit?

I would request you to please do try writing something in devanagari

To be honest, I am irritated. Not personally with you Mr. Bakaya, but
this argument of yours. Your insistance that roman is a better
alternative for Hindi than naagarii, is very shortsighted, and
illogical. Unfortunately you're not the first person who's made this
argument. Therefore, every thing you've said in Roman's defense, is NOT
surprisingly, nothing new.

I don't want you to stop stating your opinion. But I do want you to
present a reason better than "its easier for computers"... or simply,
"its easier". Because as you indicated... it would be easier to simply
block you from this group. But that's not the solution to the issue.
Neither is accepting Roman as an alternate script for Hindi.

And what irritates me most, is that हिन्दी के
अपने लोग - हिन्दी के
विद्यार्थी, शिक्षक, हिन्दी
की रोज़ी रोटी खाने वाले खुद
ही हिन्दी (और नागरी) की जान
के दुश्मन बने चले जा रहे
हैं। आप हिन्दी के अध्यापक
