Questions: कुछ सवाल

Hi Everyone,

I am (still) reading Narendra Kohli's short story (well, I'm on page 51 of 60, not THAT short!) हम सब का घर (ham sab kaa ghar).

I have come across two sentences I am not sure about, one because I can't seem to make a translation flow correctly (perhaps I'm missing the point) and the other because I don't know what one of the words (रौब raub) means. 

Any help/thoughts/feedback would be much appreciated!

A father has just been explaining to some kids about the "circle of life"...how big things eat little things, etc.

1.  आप ने यह तो बताया ही नहीं कि वृक्ष मिट्टी के कटाव तथा उसके मरुभूमि बनने को रोकते हैं तथा वर्षा करवाने में सहायक होते हैं"
(aap ne yah to bataayaa hii nahii.n ki vRRix miTTii ke kaTaav tathaa usake marubhuumi banane ko rokte hai.n tathaa varShaa karavaane me.n sahaayak hote hai.n)

It is a list of all the things the father DIDN'T mention...logging trees and the way that makes deserts, and the ways that rain helps things grow?  How would you all translate that?

2.  I am just not sure what रौब (raub) means?

वह सब इसलिए छोड़ दिया कि तुम बच्चों को यह सब बताकर इन पर अपना रौब डाल सको।
(vah sab isliye choR diyaa ki tum bachcho.n ko yah sab bataakar in par apnaa raub Daal sako)

2.  I am just not sure what रौब (raub) means?

Raub means to create impression by boasting of oneself.

Awe could be something which may come from within. But Raub is something which you deliberately do to impress/influence by boasting of your power, intellect, experience or what ever you have. Example would be : "He told tha

OK. It would be like. "I know what Raub means becasuse I am a PhD and I have been writing for major Hindi magazines. I have written 10 books and 20 plays; I am also writing a script for a major movie.So, I know what I am talking."

Here I am trying to establish my 'raub' by talking about my self. Now, you may be able to understand it well.

अर्थ - धाक, दबदबा, बड़प्पन की धाक, रुतबे का आतंक

 

प्रयोग -           रोब डालना या रोब जमाना - अपने व्यक्तित्व से दूसरों पर धाक जमना या दूसरों को प्रभावित करना।

                       रोब में आ जाना - दूसरे के प्रभावशाली व्यक्तित्व को अपने ऊपर हावी होने देना। आतंक में आ जाना।

                  रोबदार चेहरा (रोबीला चेहरा) - जिसकी धाक बैठती हो। प्रभावशाली।
