I wish all of you have a good start in this very exciting 2012.
VABS is recently updated. The main feature is to use a better method
to optimize the finite element mesh. VABS 3.6 can be several times
faster than 3.5 for big problems. VABS 3.6 can handle larger models
which cannot be analyzed by previous versions. And also the slow I/O
performance of VABS 3.5 reported by some users was corrected by using
the most recent gfortran compiler.
For example for a realistic blade meshed with 200 K DOFs, using my
laptop, VABS 3.6 takes less than 20 seconds for constitutive modeling
(Timoshenko model), while VABS 3.5 takes about 4 mins for
constitutive modeling. Of course, if you use DLLs, it will be even
faster as a significant portion of time for large problems is spend
by I/O with hard drives.
If you are interested in trying the new version, please let me know.
I really appreciate your continuing interest in VABS, which
constantly makes it better!

PS: if you are not using VABS and want to be deleted from the mailing
list, please kindly let me know.
