An example of how some people have w-w-a-a-y-y- too much time on their
hands. Too bad it couldn't be turned to something constructive, rather than
destructive.

Great stuff! I like ordinary art like that. That stencil revolution
site is good too - we are getting some very clever stencil art around
Halifax.

Cheers,

***There is no such thing as good graffiti. It is the start of a downward
spiral, is illegal, and should be dealt with the way N.Y.C. did several
years ago.

That would be a good start. Graffiti is vandalism plain and simple.

Plus some of it is just amazing art work.

Two examples I can think of in Halifax:

- Near the Fairview Overpass, coming inbound on the Bedford Highway,
there is a utility box that is painted on the west side of the road. It
seems to be a night scene of Halifax, IIRC.

- On Barrington Street, across from the TD Building, there is a horse
painting on one of the garage doors leading underneath City Hall/Grand
Parade.

At least, I *think* these paintings are graffiti (i.e. unsolicited,
illegal painting).

And then there are the neat paintings of rock formations - less
graffiti, and more just fun. For instance, the rock painted like a frog
(since destroyed) out by Porter's Lake. In its place people have painted
a face and a die, among other things.

The utility box you speak of is a commissioned work...
There are a couple of them around town....
An attempt to provide a little beautification....

The horse painting on the wall underneath City Hall was also approved...

The painted rocks on the highway out to Porters Lake
I believe were just done for the doing..so to speak...
I wouldn't count them as graffiti....they are actually nice to look at...

What's sad is that some of these people doing the real "graffiti"
actually have some amazing talent....
If they wanted to apply themselves , they could make great money
as graphic artists....

There was (and may still be) for the longest time , a whole wall
full of "graffiti" ,very well done , I might add , on the concrete wall
on Lower Water St , across from the old power station...(now the
Electropolis Film Studio)
The wall I believe was the foundation of a former building on the site....
The graffiti was on the opposite side of the wall , away
from the street....

They are great. :-) Not graffiti though, in fact they are the
opposit. The power / phone companies hire artists to do that, Kids
don't grafifit them up if they are already painted it seems. There is
some nice in the paint can toting little bastards it seems. ;-)
