Did you ever have to look for a laundromat in Los Angeles late at
night?
I did as all of my clothes and my daughters were ruined when we flew to
California last month. I know there is a lot of crap going on in the
world..and some might think it petty to complain about this...but I
wanted the vacation I took with my daughter to be special...it could be
a last. I called Air Canada from the hotel ...a recording...and spent
our first night trying to salvage some of the soaking contents...but
the lining was so wet the dye came out and needless to say not out of
the clothes. I'm a good shopper...Walmart and Winners...sale
stuff...but trying to find things in La...and with only a few days was
nuts. On my return I spoke with baggage at Air Canada who advised me
to get the receipts together and then write...it could take three
months to get an answer. That doesn't bother me..now that I just
received the bills...didn't buy much...but did before we went...the
stuff that was ruined...anyway...does anyone have any suggestions as to
how I should approach this...have the receipts re 8 calls to Air Canada
from the hotel. etc. I know this may seem small or insignifigant...but
like I said..have you ever had to spend your vacation doing laundry!!!

As long as you have a great deal of patience and time...you may get
something out of them.

I have tried a couple of times and gave up because my time was worth more
than the effort.

For all those who by soft sided luggage here is just ONE reason not to!

I travel a lot and see a lot of trashed soft sided luggage and contents.

I use a hard sided case with a leash and have had it over ten years without
an incident. I hope I can keep it another ten atleast.

Your incident and how Air Canada deals with these issues are just the tip of
the iceberg on why I hate giving Air Canada my business.

If you fly with them without incident they are a great airline. The onboard
service is fine etc etc etc. Yet, if you have one glitch it can so easily
turn into a nightmare with AC.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...California....wish I was in San Diego...or up
North in the mountains.

*** The receipts are a good thing. It might have helped to have taken a
photo, as well. I have had to do a claim with Air Canada before. It took
a while, but I was reimbursed.

That aside, how did the clothes get dirty? Did your case pop open?

Given events as this and because of the experiences of others, I now
travel with metal-clad rock-band flight cases. They were designed to be
abused but keep the contents safe. (-:

Apologies if something similar comes up as I did repy to this...must
have hit preview and the first reply somehow went...someplace...not a
good day for me to accomplish things!!! Heather you are so
right...California is an area of contrasts...I love them all. My
sanity was restored when we hit Ojai at dawn one morning and headed up
into the Los Padres National Forest...
There were about five cars the whole drive...amazing. And I agree, AC
is not the airline it once was. Shopping at Fashion Island in Newport
Beach was different...even the cleaners wear Prada. Lucky for me we
each took a good outfit in our carry-ons. We weren't going to do
Disney as we had before, but we were out of clean clothes and spent our
last day there. anyway..I'll make sure I have hard sided luggage should
we get to go again. Richard..I'm not sure about the rock type
cases...I'm
the absolute opposite of what one thinks of when thinking of
musicians...sterotyping I know,sorry...but it is a thought. Sort of
like camera cases are they? Aluminum looking things? I'm up for
anything..even roughtotes and gaffer tape at this point. It was a
brilliant idea you had of taking photos..we didn't..so much for the
expensive Digital/movie camera I bought my daughter. Guess we were in
shock. I will however take some photos of the washed items i was able
to bring back...they look like a bicycle rode over them...the dye came
out of the suitcase luggage straps inside....no the bag was never
opened..just soaking as it was still dripping when we arrived in
LA...it even smelled of lobsters...but this could have been the
material in the suitcase itself. I guess that's why we got priority
service to go to the front of the line n Montreal...no one wanted to
deal with the mess...pass it on to someone else.
Thanks for your ideas and advice.

You gotta go ballistic with them. Go to the airport & don't give up
until you get some satisfaction. You'd be surprised how quick they
will hand over free tickets or travel vouchers to calm a crazy
customer. Maybe this isn't your style but I know it works.

good luck
