Between 60 and 65 Fahrenheit should do the trick. Warm enough to keep
the dampness out and not too warm to waste energy.
I have our programmable thermostat set to go to 15 celcius during the
day when we are not home. You could probably go a bit lower than that
if you won't be there at all. Do you have houseplants that might die
if it's chilly?

You're quite welcome. Enjoy your trip.

Those periodic visits are silly. "Yep, it definitely burnt down last
night, I'll come back in a day or two to reconfirm that."
And it's only for a week too... I'd have the timer on the lights and a
radio/stereo system. Have someone drop in should we receive snow, even if
they only leave tracks in the driveway. Every little bit helps.
i had my neighbour park their extra car in our driveway.
I wouldn't go lower than 12C, I tried 10C in my shop when not in use,
but it didn't work so well, that could have been my heater though it
was creating some cool spots which could have been because that was
before i had a ceiling fan to circulate
I keep my house between 65-68 all the time. (18-19C), and the garage
which has plumbing at 12C when i'm not in there, and 15C
Anyway, I would say 65 is too hot for storing your house, that is the
lower range of normal room temperature.
Also, shut your hot water heater off when you go... i have two
theories on that one in the winter time though -- any lost heat will
reduce the heat demand from your system, but something tells me
heating your house with heat loss from a water heater wouldn't be all
that efficient.
I think you could peg your hot water heater at about a buck a day.
It's definitely worth checking one's policy to make sure you're doing
things right if you leave the house for a period. A simple phone call
is probably good enough but I would want to read the actual policy
statement.
An Insurance salesman perhaps!!!!!!! Go on Luc, call him
an asshole.. All salesmen are assholes right?
lol, is this the same guy and not someone posing as him? I though him a bit
off before, but seems to have taken an extra pill tonight.
Truth, when the pipes froze in my Mums house because the furnace died,,
the insurance adjuster told them that they wouldn't have been covered if
a neighbour hadn't been coming in every day to feed the cats
