Hi baitmn-- I'll save harlam357 the trouble. I had the same error. Check the thread at https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!topic/hfm-net/jyYGf0kv1Bk . Solution is in the works; In the meantime, careful resizing your HFM.net windows.... :-)  -DrBB1

The most simple way to resolve this issue is to open a command prompt
and go to the HFM installer folder. Usually C:\Program Files\HFM.NET
or C:\Program Files (x86)\HFM.NET. Then simply type the following to
start HFM.

HFM.exe /r

The /r switch will tell HFM to reset the user preferences before
starting. This effectively deletes your old user preferences file and
then recreates it using the defaults. I just reproduced this error
and was able to successfully start HFM using this method. There is no
need to uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks! What would be really cool is if this were not necessary at
all... this particular issue with the SplitterDistance has been fixed
and will not be an issue in the next release. However, HFM uses the
.NET Framework mechanism for saving user preferences and from time to
time these (the xml file) can get corrupted due to improper shutdown,
etc. I've found plenty of developers online who have also experienced
these corruption issues with no answer to the problem other than to
recover from defaults. So this option is still useful and much easier
than explaining to a user where to find a file to delete.
