Hi i am Neil from India. Sr. Lecturer in computer science and somewhat interested in artificial intelligence concepts. How old is this group? Can we all introduce ourselves here?
I'm the owner of the group. It had been a mailing list for a while,
and I moved things
to Google Groups earlier this year.
I'm a lecturer in CS as well. I'm more interested both in Hex per se
and also in AI, though I'm far from expert in either one.
The mailing list used to be quite active when there was a lot of play
on Playsite. Then I think people moved to LittleGolem and got out of
the habit of communicating. Things are more quiet now. I miss the
chatter.
Hi Kevin !! I feel great and honored to hear from the owner. I am also not an expert in any manner, but am interested to learn more and if possible, go for some research. R u into research? Which country and city r u from? which university?
I am from Rai Foundation College, Bhopal, India. Ever heard about Bhopal?
Sure, I've heard of Bhopal. It's one of the two or three we
hear about from time to time. One of my thesis advisors for
my 2002 PhD was from India as well.
My research activities lately are pretty minimal. What effort
I do expend on it goes into my OHex database on the web.

Hello Sir !! Honestly speaking sir i didnt expect u were having grey hairs. Well i am only 27 and into computer science lecturing from 4 years. When i started chatting with u i thought u were around my age or so.....apologies if i said anything wrong.
I wud definitely like to learn a few things from u now. Wud u share ur knowledge with me?
Sir u really not only think young, u r young at heart it seems.
Thanks for the motivation. I am almost uneducated as far as research is concerned. Only thing intuitive or instinctive feeling I have is that i can contribute something in artificial intelligence, how to go about it and what to do is unclear .....
The usual thing is to pick a topic or topic area, and read everything you can find. Once you get very familiar with the territory, you'll have some idea of what is known and what is not, and perhaps it will occur to you: a question that has not yet been asked that you can find the answer to.
Find the answer, write it up. That's research. Then, for full benefit, you have to find someone to publish it. To be taken seriously, it has to be subject to peer review by the publisher.
There's a great deal more to be said, but if you're just starting out, see if you can do the first step -- get current in something that interests you.
Hi Sir !! Ur response was so simple and to-the-point. I am really encouraged by your reply. I will first try to find out what interests me, and i shall start searching on it. Right sir? wud u mind if i keep updating you abt wht i am trying out? R u in California at the moment? Tell me how u manage ur research, job and family at the same time.
