Hi all,

I just came up with the idea of using 2 media converters, so basically go from the HL2 UTP to a media converter, then fibre and then a media converter and back to UTP. Nowadays, these media converters can be purchased reasonably cheap:
for example
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oFHRMYR

Only €14 for 2.
Add the fibre cable and I guess you'll spend about €18 max.

Why will you probably say?
Well here is the idea..... Our computers are QRM and ground noise generators, as well as our networks, switches and hubs. If you add a fibre cable in between, you physically isolate the electrical connection of the HL2 or the Anan from the computer. So any generated QRM from your laptop or desktop and coming in through the copper wire cable of your UTP connection will be eliminated.

Another big advantage is getting rid of possible RFI. Fibre is RFI friendly, while copper wires are a RFI magnet.

I wonder if someone has these media converters laying  around and do some tests to see how the ground floor noise compares in both connection scenario's.

I have not tested these but my biggest concern would be the power supply generating noise.  But most likely, you probably have or can make a clean 5v source if you need to.

Since most optical lasers operate at 3.3v I would not expect a noisy voltage boost converter to be in one.

I use similar (older) ones like tp-link or another brand at work in telecommunications (thankfully all upgraded to managed converters now) but never tested them for hf noise

But now for the real reason I'm responding

If you're running a fiber cable through your house, go look at fiberstore and look up a armored jumper.

A 30 meter sc/upc to sc/upc appears to be about us$24. They have other lengths as well

Of course there are other vendors but the advantages the Kevlar jacket gives is worth considering to help protect it from sharp bends.
