Hello all, new here.
I've spent a few weeks researching the HL2 and associated boards but some of the options get confusing reading through the forums. I'm intending to pair the HL2 with the IO board and an amp, using thetis for the interface. I'll mainly be using it for SSB, occasionally FT8. It's the companion board a requirement to use ssb and digital or is it better to use the computer for audio interface? Any advice is appreciated

My setup feeds audio from my headset into a focusrite USB audio adapter (basically a soundcard in a box).  Thetis takes the audio in from the audio driver and then Thetis does all the magic.  I have ran things with a cheap USB headset too and had great results also, just not as good of sound quality.

My understanding is that the boards that use a Mike input on the board just sends the audio to the computer for thetis to manipulate anyways so it's a little redundant.

I have found that using asio drivers works better than basic drivers.

For digital you will need something like voicemeeter bannan to port the audio. It is described in the thetis manual
Just my 2 cents

While the companion board (not the IO board) provides an audio codec,
the actual audio data is sent to the HL2 from the computer. So in
some sense, with an USB headset attached to the computer you are fine.

The distinct advantage of having HL2-audio is a CW side tone without
latency, but if this is of no concern for you, you do not really need
the audio codec.

BUT, I must say I am not using Thetis so others may have more valid
comments.
