Unfortunately Hep is not being actively maintained these days. Updating Hep
to run under the latest Twisted release is on my TODO list, but I haven't
had time to do it, and probably won't in the near future. So you're probably
better off looking for another solution for now.

I'm searching around for a replacement for newspipe (a rss->smtp tool).
Works great, but every article change (including banner ad changes)
mean a duplicate article being forwarded, and culling them is a real

OK, I believe I've fixed this problem. Hep should now gracefully
handle feeds with # in the title (as well as slashes and other
characters that aren't allowed in URL paths).

I've verified this as a bug in Hep - adding a connection to the

character, although I haven't figured out exactly why yet.

did two things which may have triggered the relapse:

(1) I tried viewing messages in #blah RSS feed via the web interface,
(which didn't work) and then
(2) I tried connecting via Mail.app (using IMAP) and I got the same

Your data wasn't corrupted on disk, but somehow Hep became confused
about the state of your connections. I'll have to spend some time
looking through the logs to try and figure out what happened. It's

I recently made several changes and additions to my connections on
hep.fettig.net and I'm having several problems now that make me think
that my configuration got corrupted somehow.

I am having a similar problem. I have followed the directions on the
Hip web site on my Fedora Core 2 server. I use mktap hep -d
/usr/local/hep/ -p xxxx.
This is what my error twistd.log says:

There's some new features on hep.fettig.net - see my weblog. The one
change that might cause a tiny bit of discomfort is that 'Sites' is now
called 'Connections' - IMAP users might have to resubscribe. Other than
that, everything should be the same as before. Except better :-)

It's possible that this is just a Mail.app problem. I thought I had
just caught it again, but then it resolved itself (again) before I
could figure out what was causing it.

It's good to know that I'm not hallucinating the broken messages. Or,
at least, that we are sharing the hallucination! :-)

If you want to run Hep on the standard (reserved) ports, you need to
have root/admin permissions. Try sudo mktap hep [options]; sudo -nf
hep.tap.

Hep supports the IMAP \Seen and \Deleted flags - if you view or delete a
message, Hep should remember it, and if you mark a message as Unseen, or
undelete a message, Hep should respect that too. Hep doesn't support
expunging mailboxes at the moment, however, so there's no way do

I was trying to install hep on my debian sid. I have twisted 1.3. I
installed yarn-0.2 and hep-0.6. But I have problems when starting up

I would say it probably is a bug if Hep can't import OPML of any sort.
The OPML "spec" leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation, so
there are a lot of flavors out there. If you'd like to send me your

Has anybody got this going on OS X? I've got twisted, yarn and hep all
installed. I did the mktap and launched the hep.tap. I didn't get any

Well I can't promise a lack of growing pains :-). By signing up for
hep.fettig.net you're essentially aggreeing to be an alpha tester (see
[link]).

Hep was designed with IMAP in mind, although not just IMAP - it's really
designed to be a universal any-protocol to any-protocol message proxy.

folder structure won't be kept, but the sites will get added.

As a side note, I do plan to add support for managing sites in folders
eventually. Hep's OPML parser understands folders, but at the moment

rss.blogstreet.com, which I have been using for the past couple of
months. Their RSS to IMAP gateway service is great conceptually but it

post to your weblog. This is for security reasons, so Hep can use SMTP
