The Greek island of Paxos is a really beautiful island which provides
the ideal environment for anyone interested in the creative arts to
tap into its peace and beauty and discover their true potential. It is
in fact hard to imagine a better place to hone ones writing skills and
special interest holiday operator, Paxos Life Activities, is pleased
to be offering a range of Creative Writing holiday courses on Paxos in
Summer 2010.
‘Unleash Your Writing Power’ (3 - 10 May) is an inspirational and
innovative workshop that will help writers to inject energy, power and
magic into everything they write, whether it be articles, stories,
family history, marketing or business communications, or even a best
seller. The course will be led by Judi Goodwin, a journalist and
trainer with wide experience in both print and broadcast media, who
has been a regular feature writer for national and regional
newspapers, and also a freelance broadcaster for BBC Radio.
‘My Life – My Story’ (10 – 17 May) will help anyone who wants to write
for publication, or for children and grandchildren, to explore the
apparently everyday aspects of life and tell their story in a way
that’s lively, interesting and engaging. The course will once again be
led by Judi Goodwin.
‘Writing for Children’ (7 – 14 June) is an inspiring, challenging,
thought-provoking and fun course for anyone who has ever wanted to
write for children and will help them discover whether they could
create the next Horrid Henry, Harry Potter, Pippi Longstocking or
Paddington Bear, or whether they might be the next Philip Pullman,
Michael Morpurgo, Lauren Child or J K Rowling. The course will be led
by Jo Unwin, an experienced editor, children’s literary agent and
writer of award-winning children’s television programmes Byker Grove
and My Parents are Aliens.
‘Writing About Paxos’ (13 - 20 September) offers the chance to explore
the fascinating landscape of Paxos through creative writing. Spirit of
place has always inspired writers, from Thomas Hardy’s Dorset to
Lawrence and Gerald Durrell’s Corfu, and Paxos provides the perfect
opportunity to immerse oneself in an inspirational place and find a
rich source for poetry or prose. The course will be led by Adam
Strickson, an experienced writer, tutor and frequent visitor to Paxos,
who is a Teaching Fellow in Creative Writing at the University of
Leeds.
The friendly and informal courses are suitable for all levels of
ability and offer the best of both worlds: the chance to have a
holiday in an idyllic location, while at the same time doing something
very worthwhile in an environment where there are few distractions.
Accommodation for all except ‘Writing About Paxos’ is in shared villas
with their own pools and spacious terraces set in the shade and
tranquillity of the olive groves above the village of Loggos. But for
anyone who already has their own accommodation on Paxos or who wishes
to be more independent, it is also possible to join just the group
tuition sessions.
The holidays are not aimed at single travellers but anyone travelling
alone and wishing to spend their time in the company of a group of
like-minded people would be perfectly at home here. They are equally
suited to couples and larger groups.
At the time of writing, places are available on all Creative Writing
courses in 2010.
Painting, Photography, Yoga and Self-Development holidays, as well as
skippered and bareboat Yacht Charter are also available.
