There
Will Be A Palestinian State "Whether
You Like It Or Not"
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak
said
there is no alternative to the
creation of a
Palestinian state.
In an interview with Israel's Army
Radio he said there will be a
separate
Palestinian state "whether you like
it
or not. The world isn't willing to
accept,
and we won't change that in 2010,
the
expectation that Israel will rule
another
people for decades more," he said.
He added the current rift between
Washington
and Jerusalem "is not good for
Israel."
Palestinians pulled out from
scheduled
indirect peace talks with Israel
after
Israeli officials announced Israel
would
build 1,600 new housing units in
East
Jerusalem.
The move drew significant ire from
the
United States, which repeatedly
called on
Jerusalem to stop settlement
expansion.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu has since
ordered a
10-month stop in permits for new
homes in
the West Bank, a policy that doesn't
include
East Jerusalem.--
