I want to get the heatsync blog more active with community posts, and maybe a blogroll down the side with all our blogs.

Post your link!

Yep, I technically have a blog at http://www.coffeebot.net. I rarely update, though...but I'm currently trying to rectify that :)

Since there's a call for more/better blogging, a blogging workshop might be a good idea.  Current best-picks for software, pointers for setting it up, getting followers, best ways to tie-together various types of content, etc.

I've usually got some interesting projects that I'm working on, but since I've never set up a blog, the pictures and descriptions of my projects are scattered all over the internets.  It would be cool to have this stuff in one central place.

cheers,
c

I would try to make a workshop or two on blogging. I would like to learn more about load management and site mirroring.  I could also share my methods but I'm not sure my way and software are the best options now days.  I setup my blog years ago but It works for me and it is fairly inexpensive to run.

I would say that blogging can be very time consuming to put up good, clear, meaningful, and useful content. And if you're not going to strive for those goals I recommend not posting until  you have the time to commit to such goals. I really mean it! it can take hours and hours to take the photos or video, edit, layout, write-up and upload content people want to consume.

I still can't hit some of my goals with video "short, concise and yet full content" I know it is possible but I think the effort is like an order of magnitude greater and I don't have the time.

My advice to bloggers is currently to use a hosted service like Tumblr, Posterous, WordPress.com, Page.ly, etc. Just enough flexibility to get your stuff out  without becoming a LAMP admin.

I host my wordpress blog at Dreamhost and I freaking love their service.  They have a ton of different LAMP apps you can install with just one click and the price isn't too bad.  I used to host my own site but it got annoying after a while having to keep everything up to date manually.  A good hosting provider will let you update software packages by just clicking buttons, and they keep the OS and OS software up to date for you.  They are also pretty easy to find coupon codes for online so you can get a deal at sign up.

I can't speak for the others, but posterous sucks for blogging since the twitter takeover. Rix and I are using Jekyll in one of his boxen; It's much simpler to manage than LAMP, and more flexible than, say, WordPress.

I moved to tumblr after the twitterpocalypse.

Wordpress is a bit heavy weight if all you want to do is put words down.

page.ly is hosted wordpress, same diff.

Rixxie got me moving to Jekyll. Me gusta.

Currently, my site is running habari, a lightweight PHP-based blog. That's another option for folks who just want to put words down.

I've added everyone to the front page of heatsync as an extended blog roll, with 2 exceptions:
Nate Phillips and John. I need RSS feeds from both of you to add you!

Also Rickooooo. Your heart belongs to another now, so I didn't include you either.

Its not my final solution, but it was easiest to implement for now. I also hope to promote specific cools posts of yours as HSL front page stories linked back to your blogs.

We're also always looking for people to help out blogging, crossposting, and answering questions on facebook (which we just got Ryan McDermott access to) google plus, twitter and any other platform we're doing a shitty job being present on. Let me know if you can help!

Assuming youre not offering help for a specific social platform, find all the cool things these people and others in our community are up to and write about them  Find people who won't blog and interview them. Write about what's going on in industry or maker community. Think of all the things we haven't thought of :)

know if that isn't working. I'm looking forward to reading about what
