Heya everyone,

So, over the last few months, everyone's noticed Nate's and my rocket in the
front display case.

Well, it's time that they fly.

This weekend is the Superstition Spacemodeling Society's fall two day bonanza
in BFE west Phoenix. Everyone's invited! Nate, Jen, Ing and I are going to be
camping Friday night in to Sunday afternoon so that we can have the full
gritty experience. But you don't have to, you can just drive out there and
head home when you're tired.

The 1998-era SSS website is http://www.sssrocketry.org/, that includes details
on the GHS launch weekend, and how to get to the launch site (PROTIP:
http://goo.gl/maps/PBH5U is close)

I'll be launching throughout the weekend on my Arcas HV (Estimated to 2500ft),
54mm Nike Smoke (estimated to 5000ft) and my 54mm Sentinel build (Estimated to
5000ft), and Nate plans to launch his Aries (AND GET NAR HIGH POWER LEVEL 1
CERTIFIED!!!) on Sunday.

There will be a TON of interesting rockets and cool folks at this event, as
well as our awesome vendor http://whatsuphobbies.com on-site with low- medium-
and high-power kits, if you're interested in getting in to high power rocketry
yourself. Nate and I would love to help you make it happen.

Ryan

Can I bring the dome? What is the fee for camping?

No fee, bring the dome. If you want to fly, range fees are 20$ for both days
(iirc).

Word. What is the law enforcement presence like? If I brought a
bunch of bloody merry implements, would I get in trouble for not
having a liquor license?

Also: is anybody bringing a generator? Want me to bring my giant
propane cooker?

No being smashedup drunk. It's not burning man and there are dangerous rockets
all over the place. I have no problem with bloody mary implements though.

Also bring things :)

Is it okay if I bring a wooden man and burn it though?

I AM MAKING THIS INTO BURNING MAN AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!

Ryan what are you camping in?

We'll probably shoot for an early Sat. morning arrival.  What time do you think you'll first launch on Sat.?

Hey all,

CampSync Labs has a camp set up on the second row, near the middle. Look for the pink HSL flag.

Julie and I cruised out yesterday mid-day. Beautiful weather. I've launched my share of C & D sized rockets before, but if I've never witnessed "high power" rocketry before... uh-maz-ing. Loud (very) and dangerous... what's not to love? Nate/Jen/Ryan/Ingrid doing the HS colors proud. Cheers! -Doug

Congratulations Nate! Wish I were there to see it happen, though at least now I know what it was like. Now... about payloads.... ; )  -Doug

Thanks! Have something in mind? I'm really interested in putting science into the sky, and the more ideas, the merrier. I can lift a kilo or two a half km up now...

I had planned on being there saturday, but ellen came down with either a bad cold or allergies, and we spent the weekend indoors.
Maybe next year.

Sounded like fun.

No need to wait a year! There are monthly launches and two yearly events like this weekend. The next big launch is in April. Check out http://sssrocketry.org for schedules, and Ryan and i will definitely let the group know when we go out next.

rrix trimmed our flight footage rather nicely for your nausea^Wenjoyment.
his Arcas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H3WqsX6PXk
my Aries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRbCbL_cdKU

Ingrid also got some amazing shots of my and others' launches.

We have another, albeit smaller, launch coming up on 11/10 from 09:00 to 15:00. It's a bit of a drive, but totally worth it. Come out and play!

For those of you interested, I collected some flight data from the Aries:
Motor: Cesaroni I285
Burn: 2.3 sec
Max velocity: 227 mph
Peak accel: 12.8G
Apogee: 1981 ft
Flight duration: 56.4 sec
Grin factor: AAAAAA+ would fly again
